*Laura Kinney's POV*
I had no clue why I was sent to the park, it wasn't like you just took me places. I especially didn't go places alone. Logan liked that I stay in his sight, but today he'd woke me up early telling me to get dressed I was going to the park. The park was a place I'd only been once or twice. Being a government weapon didn't leave much time for playing games, or hang out with people my age. But never-the-less I was here, standing in the hot, sticky July weather, dressed in a t-shirt and jeans. The playground wasn't anything fancy; Swing sets lined the outer edge, and picnic tables the sides. Making a sort of barrier to keep the children in. A gymnasium set square in the middle, kids crowded all around and on it. A few parents sat on benches watching happily as their little ones played.
It all seemed so dumb to me and the same question that'd been in my head since I was dropped off resurfaced: Why would Logan leave me here? What'd I do to deserve this?
Teens were scattered around here and there. They seemed to like this giant net of a thing. It looked very unsafe.
As I continued to walk and survey the place, my eyes landed on a group of kids around my age. There was six people to exact. A teenage girl with red hair sat on one of the swings, a short haired brunette sat on the one next to her. A guy with curly dark hair had the chains of the swing the brunette was in shaking them back and forth, two other guys leaned back on the structure, and last boy sat next to the brunette.
I briefly heard him call the brunette sister, before starting to walk passed them."Hey, you!" The darker skinned boy calls.
Surely he didn't mean me.
"Yo, ya deaf?"
I didn't turn around as I heard one of the girls scold him. "I'm not deaf." I respond and turn to face him. "I just didn't think you meant me." I didn't want to talk to them, and quite frankly the longer I stand here the more the brunette creeps me out. She gave me a weird vibe, so didn't the one who called her sister.
"Who else would he be talking to?" Another one of the boys asks. He was missing his two front teeth. Odd for how old he was I thought, but decided not to question it.
"Not sure there's only a hundred people here he could be talking to." I say. I didn't like being questioned.
"I apologize for my friends." The redhead says with a smile. "They don't play nice with others often."
It was a joke, but honestly it was the truth. "It's okay." I start to walk away, wanting to put as much distance between me and them as possibly, when the brunette spoke up.
"You're afraid." Was all she said.
The boy behind her frowned. "El, what are you talking about?" He asks concerned."She's scared of us." The girl, El, repeats. "It like she can tell it's trouble to be around us."
"Don't say that, El, you sound like we're cursed." The redhead chides.
They all turned toward me obviously waiting for my reaction. "Kay, bye." I wave and attempt to leave.
"Don't go!" The youngest boy who sat on a swing chimes in. "Please."
Something in the way he said it made me want to stay.
"I'm Will." He says. "This is my sister El and her boyfriend Mike. The redhead is Max, and the other two guys are Lucas and Dustin." He introduces everyone motioning to each as he said their name.
I wasn't sure what to say. Should I tell them my name? Should I run away? Were they secretly working for the men in white? I wish more then ever that my father was here.
I'm not a scarredy cat or anything, but at some times my judgement wasn't the best. I'm an eleven year old year, who was barely more than five foot tall, and roughly a hundred pounds. The only thing I had going for me was that I was a mutant. A government experiment with adamantium claws and the power to regenerate quickly.
"I could have sworn she could talk a moment ago." Dustin jokes.
This kid had spoken all of two sentences and already I didn't like him. "I can speak I'm just not supposed to talk to strangers." Way to go Laura that sounded believable.
"Liar," El says quickly. "Don't lie."
"Okay, well it was nice meeting you." I try to leave again, but find that I'm frozen in place. Turning back, I notice El has blood coming from her nose. "Why are you so afraid of me?" She questions.
Okay she was giving me weird vibes, and I wanted nothing more then to go home. "You're bleed." I chose to say instead.
She nodded. "I'm the one stopping you from walking away."
No way she can't be a mutant! Can she? God where's Charlies when you need a psych.
"You're a mutant?" I stutter out.
"M-uta-mutant?" She mimics. "No, but I can control things with my mind."
"Like the X-Men." Dustin exclaims. "You know real Jean Grey, Professor X kinda stuff."
I paled. How'd they know about them. I only knew of them through comic and what little Logan had told me. "How do you know about Charles and Jean?"
"Who doesn't know about them." Mike laughs.
"And Wolverine." Max adds. "Can't forget about him. He's my favorite."
Logan? Her favorite?"What are you talking about?" I demand impatiently.
"Hey it's just a comic book." Lucas says putting his hands up.
"But it's not," I start. "It's real, okay. Just like how your friend's real."
"Are you okay? Did you escape the loony bin?" Dustin asks.
"Did you?" I counter. "It's all real."
"Prove it." Max stood up. "If it's all real then show us."
"Gladly." Glancing behind me, I notice a wooden shed used for baseball. "Follow me." I gesture for them to follow and surprisingly everyone, but Dustin does. He follows a minute later complaining about following a loony into unsupervised territory.
Once inside I take a sharp breath and let my claws slide out, two on each hand.
The small area erupts in gasps and curse words.
"She's a mutant." Will sounds amazed. "She's really one of them!"
"No way!" Dustin shakes his head. "This is mental."
"I like her." El laughs. "She's like me."
I smile. "I have a feeling we're more a like then ya know, El."
"So wait you have Wolverine's claws?" Max asks astonished.
"Yeah he's my dad," I reply. "Pretty sweet, huh."
"Really sweet." Lucas agrees quickly.
We stayed in there a long time. I found El, much like me, was born and raised in a lab. She wasn't used to kill people and go psycho on whoever she was told to, but to find people and things. She had a pretty cool power, but it hurt her to use it.
"Guys, it's six-fifteen we've been in here three hours." Mike's voice rang through the room.
"Mom said we had to be home by six!" Will jumps up and grabs El's hand. "We gotta go."
El nods. "Will we meet again?" She asks me.
"Yeah."
"But how?" Dustin questions. "You'll have to go back to the institute."
"Don't worry I'll find you." I answer. "If you need me I'll find you."
El nods again then hugs me. I stiffened not used to hugging. "Bye, Laura."
"Goodbye, Eleven." I let go of her and follow them outside.
"Laura!" A new but familiar voice yells.
"Logan!" I take off toward my "father", throwing my arms around him.
"Hey, kid, did you have fun?" He asks hugging me tightly.
I nod looking back to where they stand a little shocked by the scene. "Yeah I did."
He waves at the kids. Max looks like she might faint as he does.
"Can we go home now?" I ask, looking up at him.
"Yeah sure, Laur, let's go home." Logan puts a hand on my back ushering me toward his car.############################
Okay so this was made for a friend of mine to enjoy, but I hope anyone who reads this enjoys it.
Yes the media is a video of Laura. I tried to find one of her and El, but I couldn't find one so you're stuck with just her.
P.S. Don't get butt hurt if Laura or anyone else isn't how you think they should be, because I've seen the show and know quite a bit about X-Men so anything not right is a change made for the book not a mistake. - Izzy
