Rain

I heard it pounding on the roof as soon as I woke up. Drops of hell, shooting through my eardrums, making me want to roll back over and hide under the covers for an indefinite period of time. The rain used to relax me, but now? Every time it happened,
something in me seemed to know that it was going to be a bad day. I silently asked myself how many times I would re-live that night before I finally started to feel normal again. Thirty seconds, it took thirty seconds of stupidity and now I was left with a ghost that I couldn't shake. Most of the time I could push these thoughts aside, but as the thunder came crashing through my little town at 3:04 am, it was just too vivid. I rolled over to my side, curled my knees almost into my chest, and nuzzled down into my sunset-toned moose comforter. Although I had a perfectly good pillow, I rested my head on my elbow and pulled the covers over my head. Sammy used to laugh about that, pull my head back into the pillow by the ponytail whenever we laid on the couch, but he hadn't done that in a very long time...
