I arise from my deep slumber knowing that was the last night of good sleep that i would have for a while. I shake the thoughts out of my head and trudge down to the large communal bathroom. I strip all my clothes and step into the hot stream of water spewing out of the shower. I take a rag to my face and then to the rest of my body. Hot water, something that I am going to miss when I leave. I turn off the faucet and step out of the shower I wrap the towel around my moist body and walk over to the sink. I look at myself and notice the slight bags underneath my hazel eyes from lack of sleep due to late training. remove the towel and put on my underwear. Using the somewhat damp towel I attempt to dry my hair. so much more awake since my shower and am now marching down the hall. I get a rush of nervousness and excitement, but I ignore it. I open the handle to my room and immediately go over to the closet. I look at the clock and it reads 0530. I throw on my pants, shirt, and blouse, in as little time possible, and head toward the kitchen. I stand in line with everyone else waiting for the mediocre food. I arrive at the front of the line and grasp both ends of the red, hard, plastic tray. I walk over to an empty seat and start eating. Who knows when our next meal could be. I finished eating minutes after. I looked at the watch on my wrist. 0600 it reads. He will be here at any moment to assign us our missions. He enters and everyone rises and salutes him.He dismisses us and we all sit in unison. He starts by calling out a bunch of names. My name echoed throughout the room and I walk over and stand in the small formation and stand at attention . He ends after calling out a few more names. Another man walks in and tells us to follow him. We all marched behind him making sure to stay in step, not making a single mistake. We stop in front of a large plane and make our way inside. Once the door has closed behind us they hand us a variety of weapons. Including but not limited to guns, knives, and grenades. We all sit in silence dreading the long flight over. I notice a sudden jerk And assume that we are landing. The doors lift up. When I open my eyes I see a battlefield. This is where young men have volunteered, or forced to risk their life. I know what I am doing is wrong, but exactly like them I must do this to repay my country.
