ASPEN

"aspen?"

"yeah?" i looked towards him.

"do you want to play twenty questions?"

"erm, yeah i guess so. you can start." i smiled.

"favorite color?"

"turquoise."

"why not just a simple blue or green?"

"turquoise is a mix between blue and green and since i couldn't decide between the two, i decided on turquoise."

"precise answer, i love it." i chuckled as i thought of a question to ask him.

"what's your biggest wish?"

"to make other people happy."

"don't you want to make yourself happy first?"

"i have a few years left, and i would much rather spend it seeing other people smile than myself." he sighed loudly. i took his answer into consideration as i tried to figure him out.

"what's your full name?"

"aspen grace minavera."

"aspen grace, i like it."

"i hate it, i mean, aspen grace doesn't even sound acceptable."

"have you-" louis was cut off by sirens roaring.

"hey! what are you two doing in there!" a manly voice yelled, running towards us. i whipped my head towards louis as he motioned his head towards the back way whispering, "run". louis and i ran, and kept running until we had reached a vacant hardware store.

"god you just love adventure don't you?" i yelled loudly over the blaring traffic as i tried to regain my breath.

"gotta live life to the fullest, babe." my nose scrunched at his pet name, but i smiled in return. i had noticed that the door of the hardware store was open a tiny bit, not thinking anything of it until louis stepped inside.

it had been a good six minutes since louis had gone into the dark store and i was beginning to get worried. i pulled the door open more and looked inside to find glass shards everywhere, probably a robbery.

"boo!" louis yelled, appearing out from behind a shelf of wrenches.

"bloody hell!" i screamed back. "i almost had a heart attack!"

"oh, my, god!" he continued to laugh until he had to regain himself by gripping the nearest counter. i pouted and began to walk over broken glass and out the door.

"oh, aspen, live a little."

"i am living, thank you very much."

"you're a sour puss." he teased, punching my arm. i punched him back and he acted hurt.

"lou?"

"yes, babe?" he smiled. i cringed again at the pet name as we began to walk down the street; his one arm slumped over my shoulder.

"can i please go back to my house?"

"yes, come with me." he held out his hand for me; and i accepting his lead. we walked for a good ten minutes before we reached his parked car. i climbed into the passengers side and waited patiently for him to start the car. as i heard the roar of the engine, i began to doze off while watching the lighted up buildings pass by the window. closing my eyes, i heard the faint sound of music which was calming enough to put me to sleep.
