As the sun glistened through the trees, Darkshadow, Thunderclaw, Leafpelt, Brindlefrost, her apprentice Mothpaw, Deerleg, Coyotefoot, Ravenwing, and Dawnfrost exited the camp. Littlekit and Lynxkit followed silently. The patrol made their way for the TimberClan camp.
"Keep close." Darkshadow meowed to his Clanmates.
Dawnfrost scanned the area for any rogues. Littlekit and Lynxkit tried to keep up with them, but they were just too fast. And they were walking.
Mothpaw lifted her nose. "I smell something!" She mewed. Her mentor, Brindlefrost, pricked her ears. "What is it Mothpaw?" She asked. Suddenly, a cat burst out and pounced on top of Dawnfrost, who yowled out. Darkshadow curled his lip. "WolfClan attack!" He yowled. "No wait!" A voice yowled.
Darkshadow blinked and yowled,"Stop!" He padded forward. "Leopardheart?" He looked at the TimberClan deputy with a patrol of her own and a brown apprentice who was on Dawnfrost's belly.
"My apologies. We thought you were rogues." She told them.
"I don't like this." Darkshadow mewed. Leopardheart's ears pricked. "You have little followers I see." She flicked her tail at a bush. Littlekit and Lynxkit bowed their heads and came out of their hiding spots.
Ravenwing sighed. "Kits. Always so curious." He mewed almost as if he were thinking back to something.
"But we wanted to help you!" Littlekit squeaked.
"We know, but the big forest is no place for small kits. What if something got to you two and we weren't on patrol?" Leafpelt asked calmly.
Lynxkit looked down at her brown paws. Darkshadow sighed and crouched to their level. "We know you both want to help but you're much too young for this. You two kits have to leave the big things to the warriors okay?" He meowed gently.
"Yes Darkshadow." Littlekit and Lynxkit meowed at the same time. As he looked to his patrol, his words a long way off, as Lynxkit muttered, "I told you we were gonna get caught."
"Deerleg and Coyotefoot. Take them back to the camp." Came Darkshadow's voice. The two warriors obeyed him and took the two littermates back, on their way, they saw a hunting patrol just entering. Littlekit's eyes sparkled. I wanna be on a hunting patrol! Lynxkit looked around camp again. She saw Hollyflight ushering Larkstep, who was limping inside her den. "You want to see Hollyflight treat at one of her patients?" Deerleg asked her softly as Coyotefoot was taking Littlekit to the nursery.
Lynkit nodded her brown tabby head and followed the brown and white splotched she-cat to the medicine cat's den.
"Ouch!" Larkstep meowed in pain.
"How did this even happen?" Hollyflight asked the black and gray she-cat.
"I was hunting a squirrel and the branch broke and I fell.." the gray and black tabby she-cat replied.
The amber eyed medicine cat rolled her eyes. "Squirrels of all things." She muttered. Littlekit watched the older she-cat. Larkstep grunted more as Hollyflight got to work on her leg. "B-but it felt like I was attacked up there. Like a cat pushed or clawed me down.." she mewed quietly.
Mudstreak looked at her storage. "Hollyflight. What do we do for a broken leg?" She asked her mentor.
"It has to be wrapped and healed on its own. Which means you're going to be in camp for a while Larkstep." Hollyflight meowed.
Littlekit's paws practically tingled in excitement. Her yellow eyes streched wide with awe. I want to be able to help the Clan like that. If I were a medicine cat I could heal my Clanmates when hurt and I could share tongues with StarClan. As a medicine cat I could share the knowledge of my ancestors!
