There was no time to set up a tripod or to check the battery of the camera. Many may not know what's happening still—it may only be my mom—so it was up to me spread the word. I ran up the stairs to my room and pulled out my laptop from under the covers of my bed where I left it after pushing it aside this morning. Thank god for my webcam, as I was going to greatly need it the next couple days. With the click of a button I was recording and my message was being imported onto my computer—in bad quality, but that didn't matter.
"If you are watching this, you probably already know about #HALFMOON and in that case there's no point in explaining it—especially considering we don't know how much time we have left. Here's what's happening: The atmosphere is crumbling apart, the layers are merging together, no one knows why, no one knows what's going to happen nor how long it's going to take before the earth is no longer able to sustain life. Don't freak out—band together and try to come up with a solution. I'll do the same. It's our best bet right now. Work diligently for there is no time to waste."
I clicked stop and began to open up YouTube. My YouTube channel was small which might either be because I've only been doing YouTube for almost a year now or my content is just really crappy. Despite only having 64 subscribers, I hoped that my video would reach many. After awhile's thought, I typed into the description bar the most appropriate thing I could for the situation, which was: IMPORTANT!! I KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING!! SHARE THE WORD!
I was completely unaware at the time of how affective these two little sentences would be nor how far they would get me. I shared the video to my Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, Pinterest, even my Musical.ly. I texted the link to everyone in my contacts, even my ex from fifth grade. Why I still had their number, I do not know, but what I did know is that this mattered. Without any more than seconds of thought, I slammed the laptop shut, yanked up it and it's cord, then was off to Shinn's house.
There was once an app that my friends and I would use to play would you rather at sleepovers and such, and I was always the weird kid that when asked "Would you rather spend the last day you have to live with your loved ones, or spend the last of your time trying to prevent the end from coming?" would reply with the risky route, and chose to prevent the end. It was when I was half way to Shinn's humble abode that it clicked in my brain—that's exactly what I'm doing now. Running with a laptop tucked to your chest is much more difficult than you would think, and it took me longer than hoped to arrive.
I would like to think I knew Shinn and her family well enough to not really have to knock when coming over, but always had anyways—until today that is. I didn't care and I'm pretty sure they hadn't either. In one swift motion, I stomped up to Shinn's room, opened her door, and plopped myself on her bed, nearly crushing her feet where they still had lied. For the first time that day, I checked the time—9:38. No wonder she was still asleep considering the two of us stayed awake until at least 4:45 am the night before. In fact, I should have been asleep myself, but I was so sleep-deprived from the night before that at this point, sleep didn't seem real nor possible. A mad-scientist/college student feeling set over my head as I realized that's basically what I was at this point in the day with the amount of sleep I received last night.
