Rachel and I decided to go through the bag Travis left for her. There was a tooth brush and some clothes. While I was in the closet moving things over so I could hang up her new clothes, I noticed something odd. In the front bottom right corner there was part of carpet that was flapped up. It was only a little bit; I don't know how I noticed. I sat on the closet floor and pulled the carpet back as far as it could go. The first thing I noticed was a ring.
"Rachel, get in here here! I found something." I yelled. She came in the closet and sat on the floor with me. I picked the ring up and investigated it.
"Whose ring is that?" She asked.
"I don't know, I found it under the carpet. It looks badly scratched." I looked back at the floor under the carpet and it looked like there was writing. "There's something written here! I can't read it though; it's too small see if you can." Rachel scooted up to read the carving in the cement.
"It says 'My name is Emma Woods and I've been down here for a year, well that's what I think anyways. I was taken in 2013; Travis says he wants to make me his wife. I'm pregnant with his baby. He killed three girls that I know of since I have been down here. I'm not going to make it out, please find justice for me.' that's all it says." Her eyes were watering just like mine.
"She must have carved it with the ring." I said. Rachel and I quickly fixed the carpet once we heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Travis was in the bedroom doorway when I realized I still had the ring in my hand. I quickly slipped it in my back pocket before he noticed.
"What are you two doing?" Travis questioned.
"We were just organizing the closet so we could put her clothes in neatly." I explained. I didn't want him to find out about the note or the ring. He would probably kill us. I discreetly nudged Rachel.
"Yeah we were just picking out which side we wanted to ourselves. Thank you, Mr. Gale."
"Call me Travis." He smiled and turned his head to me. "I see you taught her well, Alice."
"Thank you." I forced a fake smile.
"Have you girls eaten anything yet?" Travis asked and we both shook our heads. "Well let's change that, breakfast is the most important meal of the day." Travis winked before exiting the room.
I quickly took the ring out of my back pocket and put it in a pocket of one of the shirts that was hanging. I just want to get breakfast done and over with so I can try and find more clues around the basement. I walked to the table and noticed Travis brought down an extra chair for Rachel. I took a seat at the table and Rachel gave me a scared smile. Travis brought out our bowls of cereal and set them on the table in front of us. We ate before he told us to we didn't want the drama or the trouble that would come with it. Breakfast was full of fake smiles and fake laughs.
"I'm sorry girls I have to get going; I need to plan out my surprise for my princess." Travis got up and kissed my head then winked at Rachel. Before we knew it he was already up the stairs locking the door. Rachel quickly stood up.
"Wait! Don't do anything yet, we need to listen to his footsteps to make sure he's gone." I explained. Rachel sat back down and we listened in silence. We could hear him walking around then the noise of a garage door. It has to be completely quiet or you can't hear upstairs much. "He's gone; we need to look around for more information. First I need to put the ring back before he sees it." I said.
"Okay, hurry up we don't know when he's going to be back." Rachel said as she stood up.
I went back to the bedroom closet and took the ring out of the shirt pocket. I got down on my knees and lifted the corner of the carpet back up. I stuck the ring back on the floor and covered it up with the carpet. I patted the carpet down so it didn't look like it was touched. He doesn't know about it and I want to keep it that way. I felt someone standing behind me and jumped when I looked behind me and saw legs. It was only Rachel but it scared the hell out of me.
"Don't do that Rach, I thought you were him. Please say something next time before I have a heart attack!" I yelled at her. Precious came into the closet and put her paw on my hand. I guess she's hungry I stood up and walked over to her bowl and put food in it. She came running and began eating her food.
"Let's start searching." Rachel said as she snuck up behind me again. I know she wasn't doing it on purpose so I didn't say anything.
"We need to look in unusual places; before you came here I found a bracelet in the couch it belonged to Savanna." I looked down at my wrist to show her but it was gone, Travis must have took it. "I guess he took it when I was passed out, I had it on me." I told her. I knew she believed me by the look she gave me.
"So if he took Savanna, Chelsea, and Kayla there should be something to prove they were here. There had to of been other girls, too. We know about Emma, and that was a couple of years ago. Someone else had to of been here, hopefully we can find the clues." Rachel said as she was trying to piece together the information.
We started looking everywhere we could think of: under the tables, under the chairs, under other spots of the carpet, then under the bed. I felt like giving up but I saw something shiny under the bed it was so small, the light must have hit it in the right way. I reached my hand under the bed and grabbed it. I almost dropped it while I was pulling my arm out. I opened my hand and it was the back to an earring. It would be impossible for us to know whose it was, it could have been any of the girls.
"I wonder if anybody before us found any clues." I thought out loud.
"That's possible, that could probably be why we can't find anymore." I answered as I sat on the floor. I looked up at Rachel and I could see the fear in her eyes. I wish I never met her, I wish we weren't friends. She doesn't deserve this and now she's here with me. She's supposed to be eating ice cream right now or something. I want her to be free, but another part of me is happy she's here. It's selfish of me, but I feel stronger with her around.
"We will make it out of here I promise, Alice" Rachel assured me as she sat on the floor next to me.
"I know we will it's just a matter of when and how."
