Chap.2

My eyes misted with question as I thought about Lachlan and Mr. Rosser.

Where did they go? What was wrong?

The possibilty of Lachlan's anger originateting from the attention he was not recieving made me smirk. Ryann: 1; Lachlan: 0. Although I wasn't sure this was a victory that was worth the points.

I nervously followed Ms. Collins past the patio set, and onto the grassy area filled with several stone picnik tables.

The legs of the great masterpieces were carved with great detail describing the tale of angels and demons fighting for the souls of humans. I stood staring for a moment, wishing I had the skill to do something talented like that.

Before my parents chose to forget me I would watch my dad sculpt these gorgeous marble statues. He used to say, "Each one is as unique as our Ryann." Then he would tap my nose and wink at me. I can still hear my mom's twinkiling laughter in the backround as she sat with our puppy, Sitka, in her lap. He was an Alaskan Malamute with black fur sprinkled with silver, and bright blue eyes that were always happy, and longed for attention. We used to run around the backyard together until we were both completely tuckered out. My dad would pick up Sitka, and my mother would lift me up as I rested my cheek on her warm shoulder and drifted off to sleep.

My focus was suddenly broken for a moment as Ms. Collins broke in, "Ryann?" she seemed to sing my name as it rang in the air, "Come along now, we have to get a move on."

For what?

As my memories slipped back into their folder through the farthest reaches of my mind, I walked forward.

My brain blanked at the question, but I continued quickly to not upset the board member. What if this really was important? I didn't want to waste time aiding and apologizing to an angry forty year old.

When I looked up Ms. Collins was walking around the pink brick of Rosewood's walls. I followed with my head down, and no more hesitation in my foot steps.

My legs carried me over the different colored stone pathway and onto the soft grass of the school's edge. I slipped around the corner and lifted my head.

Where did she go?

I walked out farther until I was about hundred yards or so from the school. I looked curiously to my left, then right, forward, and even backward, but there was no sight of Ms. Collins. I considered calling out for her, but lost interest quickly. I ruffled my bangs and turned around to head back into the school.

As I walked back I was thinking about Lachlan again. Now that I thought about it, I guess I could kind of see why the female student body swoons in his presence. I don't personally have an attraction to him, if anything, I guess I could see him as just an aquaintence.

As I lingered on this, my vision was suddenly blurred. Focusing in and out randomly like I was no longer in control of my eye sight. I tried to call out for help, but silence was the only sound I could create. I couldn't speak, my tongue seemed like it was tied into a swollen knot.

Everything started getting hazy and dark. My mind felt like it was trying to tune into a radio station whose tower was out. I felt tears welling into my eyes unvoluntarily, and my face was getting extremely hot.

Fortunantly, if there was any true physical pain involved I couldn't tell you about it. This, I was happy about, but it was the only thing I could be glad for. I tried to turn and run toward the school, but somehow ended up on my hands and knees crawling through the grass.

What felt like hours was, no doubt, only a few seconds before Ms. Collinns appeared. My sight was fuzzy, but my ears were fully functioning.

"Miss Ryann, you were supposed to have been knocked out by now." I swirled with minor confusion and panic as I started to think my ears were giving way as well. Twisting her words, but I was yanked out of the thought when her laughter rang through my ear drums perfectly.

I pulled my head up and lifted my eyes trying to see through the blur. I felt a slight tug on my head and then I could feel grass slipping through my fingers.

Is she dragging me by my braid?

"Oh Ryann, I knew it was you. All along that idiot boy and your parents trying to hide it from me." It sounded as if she had spat the words instead of said them.

What idiot bo--, wait? My parents?

She threw my hair out of her fist, and I flipped over onto my stomach. I tried to push myself up onto all fours, but felt on to the ground when my arm gave way by force.

Did she kick my arm out from under me?

I laid on the ground huffing and trying to regain control of my senses. Questions whirling through my mind that seemed to have no answer.

Ms. Collins flipped me on to my back, and I hit the dirt with a loud thud. My vision was getting worse, and my head was no longer tuning, but phasing in and out from white to black. Ms. Collins took hold of my torso and laid it on her knee.

With a quick flick of her finger she swung my bangs backward with the rest of my blond locks. She leaned in so close to me I was breathing in the air she was releasing, which slightly choked me. I gasped for oxygen just as she pulled away, a chuckle filled my ears. "Oh my, it is you. Ryann be a dear, and fall asleep now, the ride won't be too long."

Ride? What ride? Where are we goi--

Suddenly my eyes glazed over, my heart beat slowed, and my mind fell into complete darkness.
