Chapter 3

"No! Mom! Dad! Sitka!" My high pitched voice was screaming, and it echoed through the air. They were running deeper into the darkness, leaving me behind.

My fragile body so small and undeveloped, retched and heaved as I tried to gather the strength to run after them.

"Please come back! I'll do better! I won't cry or complain anymore! I promise! Mommy! Daddy! Please don't leave me in the dark! Sitka! Come back boy!"

My mother's blonde hair was bouncing sideways in the air, and Sitka's tail whipped a flash of silver through the atmosphere then disapearred. My eyes filled with tears and suddenly the physical pain was very real.

I lifted my tiny arm to my forehead and I traced my hairline. There was no cresent shaped scar. My face was heating up and the wet tears burned my cheeks as they fell down my soft innocent face.

I suddenly felt arms grabbing me and pinning me to the ground, but I couldn't find my voice. They started ripping my clothes, and scratching my skin. I felt searing pain coating the freshly open wounds, and crimson liquid dripped out on to the dirt beneath me. Someone came walking through the darkness towards my young body. "Oh Ryan, my dearest Ryann." The voice was scary and unfamiliar. The demons were ripping my skin apart leaving me to only wallow in the misery I wasn't used to. "Oh Ryann." Ice shot through my body followed by a jerk of electricity. My chest unvolitarily heaved forward, my eyes shut tight trying to block out the pain. Suddenly different voice rang out from the darkness, "Ryann!" I knew that voice, but my mind felt so weak I didn't respond but with a quiet moan. "Ryann!" Again the voice lashed out at me, the familiarity increasing. I tried to match the sound with a face, but my brain was so tired.

"How dare you come here!" The other voice, the evil one, yelled over me. "She's mine! She has always been mine!"

The peace I felt from the familiar voice let my mind relax enough to match a face to the sound.

Lachlan.

He was hidden somewhere in the surrounding darkness, hidden by the deep shadows.

The demons who had been ripping apart my skin crawled up from the ground and appeared over me now. They looked at my face and body and grinned before turning away toward the voices.

One demon stayed behind and leaned down next to me. His breath hot on my face, and his hands covered in my blood and skin. He bent down closing in on my neck, his tongue was black and calloused. He parted his lips and showed his jagged teeth sticking wildly out of his gums. His forehead was resting on my chin now, and suddenly I felt unbearable pain on my collar bone.

I felt his teeth working with his jaw chewing away at my bedragled flesh. He rose his head, and his black eyes met mine. Blood smeared his face and he smiled. I screamed as loudly I as my tiny lungs and throat would allow.

"Oh! Shut up!" It was a man's voice. I flashed open my eyes, beads of sweat rested on my face and body.

It was only a dream...

"Sir! She's awake! It wasn't just screaming and crying this time!"

Confusion laid over me as a young boy, about eight years old, scrambled to his feet and ran down to another room.
