Winnifred Lawrence was a shy girl who simply hated her name, but she couldn't change that of course. She obviously couldn't change her name to a cuter nickname like Winnie or Freddie, which is what she would have preferred. She couldn't do that though because Winnifred was an antisocial, unpopular, and shy, so how could she ask people to call her something else?
Winnifred was type who stuttered when she spoke in class and who would make up any excuse not to go to parties. But Winnie also wanted a fresh start. She didn't want to always be the plain Jane, antisocial, shy brown hair, "Winnifred", brown eyed girl in the corner. She wanted to start over. She wanted to move away so that she could start a whole new life living as herself, not as this girl named Winnifred that didn't speak.
But as a ten year old who was about to turn eleven, there wasn't much she could do. That was, until one day a letter arrived in the mail addressed to her, Winnifred Ophelia Lawrence. Never had she ever received mail before. Looking back there wasn't much she remembered about that day. It was all quite a blur, but she did remember how oddly specific it was.
Magic.
How could a person ask you to believe in the impossible. Winnifred's parents thought it was a joke. They forbid Winnifred to ever think of even going. But she was a believer, a dreamer, and a dreamer never gives up. This, she thought, is the fresh start she has always wanted.
That night she packed herself a snack and snuck out of her family's London apartment to see if this "Hogwarts" was indeed real.
In the letter, there was an address to find these supplies. She would go to this address and prove her parents wrong.
The Leaky Caldron. It sounded legit enough for her, being an 11 year old. As she stepped in the old tavern, she could feel something radiating throw the air, hidden under the tables, sewn into the walls. Magic. Diagon Alley was real. She passed through the tavern onto the alley. It was late so most shops were closed. All except one. A small shop, cozy looking. In fact all of the shops had that kind of old fashion "homey" feel to them. Ollivanders, a magic wand shop. It was an odd enough name but she was not one to judge seeing as it is magic so she figured she would run into some wonky things. Turns out the shop was closed like all the others, but the owner simply lost his own wand in the piles of other wands. When the old man saw the lost little girl, he let her inside quickly. Midnight in diagon alley can get a bit dangerous, especially for a young girl like her.
Winnifred knew he would say come back tomorrow or something like that so she made a deal. If she helps him find his wand, he would give her a wand of her own. So the two very different wizard and witch struck a deal. In the end, Winnifred found his wand in a surprisingly quick amount of time, and he gave her a wand of her own.
Sycamore wood with a Unicorn hair core 10 ¾" and Unbending flexibility.

By the next day, Winnifred had shown her parents the magic she could do with the wand and they had no choice but to let her attend the school, for she had a gift and it would be unfair to force her waste it.
Soon enough, September 1st came around and with all of her supplies piled onto a cart, along with a new kitten and freshly dyed hair, young Winnifred began the fresh start she had always wanted. The old stuttering, shy, speechless "Winnifred" was gone, instead arrives 'Winnie', the brave, true, kind, and outgoing girl that Winnifred always knew she was, all she had to do was embrace herself. When she stepped onto the crimson train, she felt that same feeling of magic rush through her body and she made her way through the train until she found a compartment with two boys devouring candy.

Loudly, she said "Hi, I'm Winnie, is it ok if a join you?"
The raven haired boy nodded. "I'm Harry Potter, this is my new friend Ron, you are more than welcome to join us."
