chapter 2

-Nikki's POV-

Night was rising and so was the moon, as I howled out in desperation for the ceremony to begin, Miranda and Jeff were probably taking their sweet time with that baby sitter.

I saw two wolves running up from the east side of the forest as I yelled in my head,

'run for cover!'

Everybody ducked as two big timber wolves jumped to the middle of the ritual circle ready to begin the battle for alpha leader, which hadn't happened in this pack since Craig became leader.

The horn blew and all the male were's gathered up in the center ready to be challenged, with tearing flesh and lots of blood Jeff was the only victor in that battle. I howled in unison with the other pack memebers for the new male alpha. Since he was married, there wouldn't be a fight to see who the female alpha would be, that automatically belonged to Miranda.

We saw a dark figure, a were I think, running, a long distance from here, toward us, and when she got close enough for us to hear her thoughts she yelled in her head,

'Run! A man! Guns!'

'Oh no, that's Miranda's child, Jen is it? Wait, guns!' I thought as Miranda yelled

'No! Jeff!'

I ran as fast as I could and saw our new alpha stand up to the gunmen with blood coming out of Jeff's head, but as I saw Jen gather around him, I stopped looking back. This isn't real, I need to find Craig. I thought to myself so the others wouldn't hear.

Craig's POV

"Nikki! What are you... What happened?"

Her stunning blue eyes looked at me in worry and desperation, as I walk back in the cave, adrenaline still running through my veins from the hunt.

"The pack, Jeff, I couldn't, I didn't know what, to do."

Right then and there she breaks down to the floor, crying, and I just stand there confused, Jeff? He was the strongest person in the pack next to me, what in the world could happen to him? When she finally calms down enough she gets up, wipes her tears away, and looks straight at me with a blank expression.

"Jeff got shot, you need to watch out for Jen and Georgie, his kids, and Miranda, she's gonna go crazy if something isn't done."

"I can't go back" I replied looking down in embarrassment.

"Yes you can, at least look after them from afar, it can't hurt you if nobody knows. Jeff please," she stepped closer, trying to plead me in that tone I always fall for. Of course,it worked.

"Fine, from afar, until she's ready."

She nods in acceptance.

Ever since I saw her I fell in love with her, knew she was the one for me, but as soon as I told Jeff, things got... messy. The pack thought I was disgusting going for a little girl, but I couldn't help myself. I got run out of the pack, pushed away from my closest friends, even my fiancee looked at me with disgust and only my little sister kept me up with what was going on. Now I had my chance, but she's not ready, but when she is, so will I, I will be there for her and I will chase after her to the ends of the earth, if she runs away.

That's the day I became her protector, her everything, where I gave her my life and she didn't even know it. Well, better get to school, don't wanna be late for chem with Jen... Wow that rhymed, maybe I should write her a poem.

Jens POV

I woke up to the sound of my alarm, with a cold sweat covering my face and back, oh my god is it hot in here or is it just me? Wow, what a nightmare, good thing Georgie is being treated right in the hospital, it's one less thing to worry about today. I got up, took a shower, and headed to school, walking as usual, completely forgetting about the nightmare I've had since I was thirteen. Going to pick up Josh now, yes I know where he lives, yes we walk to school together, yes I've liked him since forever. Now I'm having second thoughts though.
