Narrator's POV: Character description-

Maddison Ziegler has the perfect life. She's stunning, popular, smart, and has the perfect boyfriend. She's working on getting a dance scholarship to attend a performing arts college in 3 years. Maddie is outgoing and is always up for some drama. She has 2 best friends named Paige and Chloe, who are equally as gorgeous and dance with her.

Paige Hyland is one of Maddie's best friends. She's in the popular group but most of her social life revolves around her constant dance schedule. She's rich, but probably the sweetest and most considerate girl you'll ever know.

Chloe Lukasiak is Maddie's other best friend. She, too, dances non-stop. When Chloe is determined, she gets what she wants (not just because she's pretty). Nothing can get in her way. She would always be the first person to stick up for her friends even if it means getting into a few fights. She has always had a little crush on Josh Hyland, Paige's older brother in 12th grade.

Josh Hyland is your typical high school jock. He's a senior, hoping for a football scholarship because his grades aren't too promising. He plays the quarterback position and just broke up with his gorgeous cheerleader girlfriend. His sisters are Maddie's best friend, Paige, and Brooke the model/pop-star/elite dancer. To wrap things up, everything in his life is going good. All the girls like him... Except for the one girl he has his eyes on: Madison Ziegler.

Nick Dobbs is Josh's best friend. They're the most popular seniors at school and any girl and well guy would be lucky know them. Nick is captain of the football varsity team but he has a secret: he's a dancer. He's a very loyal boyfriend when it comes to Kendall. The only people who know about his dancing are Josh, Kendall, and Maddie.

Kendall Vertes is a pretty and popular girl. Her life is like a fantasy. She's dating Nick even though she's in 10th grade and he's in 12th. She has a crush on Josh Hyland and isn't afraid to flirt with him. Kendall is friends with Maddie and Paige, but is a secret enemy of Chloe.

Mackenzie Ziegler is Maddie's little sister in 9th grade who practically lives in Maddie's shadows. She's always loved to dance, but is never as good as Maddie. She loves her sister and looks up to her but doesn't always feel like Maddie feels the same way. She has a boyfriend named Elliot who's in 10th grade and she tells him everything.

Cody Fields is Maddie's boyfriend. He's completely in love with Maddie but hasn't had the guts to tell her. He's on the boys lacrosse team and is really good friends with Josh and Nick. He's a senior.

--MADDIE'S POV--

Today was the first day of school, and it was also the first day of the new dance season. I went to Abby Lee Dance Company and I was on the Senior Company team. I used to be on the television show Dance Moms but the series ended 2 years ago, when I was in the 8th grade. Besides that, nothing in my life has really changed. Me, Paige, and Chloe were still the inseparable trio we've always been, and my passion for dance never died down. I was, in some ways, still the 9 year old that danced through everything with passion in her heart, eyes, and feet.

I picked out a pair of high waisted light wash jean shorts from my closet along with a black, Brandy Melville crop top that said 'Los Angeles' in white letters across the top. I put a cute jean jacket over it, without buttoning it, and slid on a pair of black flip flops since it was still warm outside, seeing as it's only 2 days into September. I braided my hair into a lose side French braid and stole a glance in the mirror one last time. I was happy with how I looked today, so I quickly ran into the kitchen, taking a granola bar from the cabinet. My mom, Melissa and my step-dad, Greg were already at work and my sister Mackenzie left the house early so she could get breakfast with her friends before their first day of high school. I had the house all to myself and so I turned up the music on my phone to the loudest volume. The song 'Right There' by Ariana Grande was playing and I sang along to almost every word.
