"Fionna, wake up! Practice is today!" My mothers voice called, tearing me away from my dream.
It's weird. I've been dreaming of the same thing every night. Some strange man, I couldn't remember his face or name, would tell me he loves me, I would respond with the same feelings, then we'd start kissing.
Shoving a pillow over my head, I tried to block her out, I wanted to finish the dream and see what happens after the kiss.
"Fionna, I let you sleep in yesterday. Today is important!" My mother called again.
I groaned and sat up. "What's so important about today?" I asked. I looked at my mother. She has long blonde hair always kept in a tight bun and shimmering blue eyes that looked like the sea.
Apparently we looked almost exactly alike, although our personalities couldn't be more different. When my father was alive he'd joke about how the only way he could tell us apart is I'm never acting like a "lady" unlike my mom. My dad, whose name was Finn, died when I was 14, so three years ago. He'd been poisoned by the king of the Lumpy Kingdom, LSP, they'd been fighting for years.
We, the Water Kingom (which was a silly name considering we're all humans, but we did have almost all of the rivers, ponds, waterfalls ect.) were still at war with the Lumpy Kingdom. The Candy and Vampire Kingdoms were helping us, they too had some disagreements with Lumpy King. The Vampire prince was one of my best friends, Marshall Lee. He'd always joke about me being his princess and him my prince. But knowing my mother, she'd choose someone like Prince Gumball.
While his kingdom was helping us fight, he had to be the most spoiled prince ever. Constantly pouting when not getting his way and acting like he was better than everyone else, all because he's smart. Marshall Lee hated him too, another one of the many things we agree on.
Let's get back to my life right now before I rattle on too much. After I finally agreed to get up my mother started getting me ready. She quickly dressed me in one of my most special dresses, a long blue one that had no back and a bow tied at my butt with pink outlining and lace. She took my long blonde hair (it nearly touched the floor) and tied it up into a ponytail with a blue ribbon the same color as my dress. She did my makeup, which is strange because my adopted sister, Cake, usually did my hair and makeup, often chose my clothes too.
"Where is Cake?" I asked.
"She's training in archery today." My mom answered.
"Cool! What am I going to be training in?" I asked, starting to get excited.
"How to be a lady."
My shoulders slumped. "I should've known we were doing something like that." I sighed. "And how exactly am I training to become a 'lady'?"
"Your friend, Marshall, will come by later to train you on how to act around Kings and their sons."
A grin spread across my face. I knew Marshall would only act serious in front of my mom, as soon as she left, we'd goof off and maybe go fight a goblin or two. "Sounds okay." I said, trying not to sound too excited.
I wobbled into the dining hall. Mother had actually made me wear heels with this long dress. I saw Marshall standing by the table, (or should I say floating?) talking to one of our cooks, Tree Trunks. He was famous for his apple pie and I was pretty sure him and Miss P. were secretly together. Marshall's face turned into his signature smirk when he saw me walk, at least what I'd call walking in these death traps, into the room.
''Why hello, princess.'' He said as I made my way over to him, Tree Trunks went back into the kitchen. "Ready for your training?" He asked.
"As ready as I'll ever be." I sighed.
"Great, now put these on your head." He handed me a stack of books.
"You've got to be kidding me." I said, as I took the books from him.
"Not at all." He placed one on my head. "Now walk with your greatest posture."
I straightened up and took a step forward. I felt the book wobble, but it did not drop. As I took my next step, another book was placed on top. I took another step, both wobbled and nearly fell over. As soon as the third book was placed, they toppled over.
"Pretty good for your first try." Marshall said, as he helped me pick up all the books. "Next-"
"Wait, we're going to be doing this for the whole time?" I interrupted.
"Of course we are." He winked, then looking past me, as if pointing with his eyes.
I glanced back and saw my adopted sister, Cake, watching us. Cake was tall with olive colored skin. She had long dark brown hair and eyes the color of chocolate. She was beautiful, even for a pregnant woman. Yes, Cake was 6 months pregnant with triplets. Her husband, Lord Monochromocorn, sadly lived with, and best friends with, Prince Gumball. Lord Mono (as we called him) was tall with a skin tone slightly darker than Cake's he had longer black hair and dark eyes, but was one of the nicest people I'd ever met.
"Okay." I whispered.
"Next," Marshall declared loudly. "We shall go horseback riding. Remember to walk out like a lady." His tone sounded so fake official I nearly laughed. We made it out and he mounted me on a horse (in the lady-like position too) and got on his own horse, telling me to follow him. "We shall practice in the woods." He said.
I giggled as soon as my horse started running after his horse. Finally, we made it to the center of the wood, where barely anyone came. Me and Marshall usually pixie hunted or something like that.
"Now my Princess," Marshall said as he helped me down from my horse and handed me a pair of flats. "What's on today's agenda?"
"Anything other than pretending to be a lady." I sighed.
