CHAPTER 4

DAVID AND GOLIETH

    Whack… a ball hits Theo right in the face, it instantly burns. Frazzled and disorientated Theo tries to find the person responsible. He sees a figure running towards him.

   “What’s wrong ya girl” sneers Nick picking up the football.

   “Nothing” replies Theo rubbing his face not showing pain.

   “Tough man are ya… come out for a game… we’ll show ya how tough you are”

   Theo ignores Nick and keeps walking, his not falling for Nicks provoking nature. He calm’s himself and pulls back together.

     Feelings build inside. His in a strong position, letting Nick get away with this one is going to look embarrassing, it's just a game of football, his played plenty with friends over the years and his no weakling.

   Steve’s see’s Theo and notices the huge red mark on Theo’s face.

   “Man what the hell happened to you” says Steve

   “You didn’t see… Nick the bastard just kicked a ball straight in my face” replies Theo.

   “What! Man that’s crazy his got no balls, that’s not on, did he do that for real?”

   “It was sort of an accident but he didn’t help the situation, he called me a girl or something”

   “What are you gunner do?”

   “He just challenged me to a game of footy”

   “So you gunner have a go?”

   “You up for it?” says Theo “We won’t get hurt”

   “Do it… we got nothing to lose… he must think we got no balls”

   Theo and Steve walk to the grassy field.

   Nick looks at them a little surprised.

   “Looky who we have here… I thought girls don’t like football” Nick says  “You’re both on the other side”

   Theo and Steve move to the opposite team. Theirs seven on their side any six on the other, Nicks thinks beating a side to pulp is much more satisfying when the numbers are against him. The win will only rub it in more.

    “NICK YOUR RUN!” says a kid with the ball.

   The ball glides through the air to Nick and he runs straight for Theo.

    Nick runs full steam ahead.

   CRUNCH… he barrels Theo to the ground, somehow Theo grabs his pants and trips Nick. Nick kicks his legs backwards and hits Theo in the shoulder. Pain instantly follow’s but the adrenalin quickly kicks in and he keeps going.

   Theo gets back in the defensive line and composes himself for more rough and tumble. He looks over at Nick. He hasn’t taken his eyes off him, he seems possessed and hell bent on showing Theo a lesson.

   “GIVE ME THE BALL!” yells Nick looking for another quick run at Theo.

   Another kid gets tackled and the ball is played under his feet. The ball is passed straight to Nick but this time Nick has taken a giant run up. Running faster than before, Nick’s big legs are pounding up and down and it’s now Theo realizes this guy is probably double his weight.

   THUD!

   Theo’s chest is instantly injected with pain, Nick drives him back but he refuses to let go. He has Nick’s pants by the threads  while a few other boys get in and finish the job they struggle to get him down.
