Tim had come on the team as a sort of technical support. What he didn't know was that Gibbs' team was made up of only the best.

Rule 5: You don't waste good.

Tim was good. He was smart, had a good head on his shoulders, and sure he screwed up sometimes, but that's what people did (plus he didn't screw up half as much as Tony did and Tony was still on the team).

Gibbs wasn't expected to be protective over Tim because Tim was just the tech guy.

Well, Gibbs blew that out of the water.

"McGee! Why don't I have a name yet?" Gibbs yelled, walking over to Tim's desk and leaning on it with his hands on the top.

"I'm sorry Gibbs, but with the internet being worked on, things are going much slower than usual." Tim replied, trying hard to not panic.

"Rule 6, McGee." Gibbs sighed, walking off.

The only reason Tim didn't have the name was because of the internet and jeez the internet was slow! Tim had almost missed the man coming right up to his desk. "Hi." He said absently.

"Hello, this the NCIS?" He asked.

"Yup. I'm Agent McGee, can I help you?" Tim asked.

"Yup, you certainly can." The man grinned, then he pulled a gun, shot the ceiling twice and pulled McGee up to his chest, putting the muzzle of the pistol to the younger agent's temple.

"Put it down!" Shouted one of the seven agents pointing their guns at the man killing the Navy officers, among them being Kate and Tony.

"I'll put a bullet in his skull if you come near me." The man threatened.

"What in the Hell-!" Gibbs had his gun out and was taking three steps forward before he had to duck when the man shot at him.

"Boss?" Tony asked, risking a glance at their superior.

"What do we do, Gibbs?" Kate inquired, not taking her eyes from the target.

"McGee?" Gibbs asked, standing from the floor.

"I'm alright." Tim replied. "I'm alright." He cut off with a strangled sound as the man tightened his grip.

"Alright, easy, nice and easy. Put the gun down." Gibbs said, voice calm.

"You first, Boss." The target laughed and Tony's eyes narrowed.

So Gibbs gave a sharp nod to Tony and the brunette came up slowly, one hand held out to receive the gun Gibbs placed in her hand.

Then, Tim's ears rang as he was pushed aside and a bullet was sent through the air.

Suddenly, Kate was over him. She spoke, he'd seen her lips move, but he couldn't hear anything over his pulse.

As the pulsing in his head faded, Kate drew back and Gibbs came forward. "You alright, McGee?" He asked, holding out a hand.

"Yeah, I think so." Tim replied as he took Gibbs' hand and was pulled to his feet.

"Good."

"And the suspect?" Tim asked. He had to know.

"Dead." Gibbs replied, then moved off to talk to Tony and that was the last they'd heard of it.
