I was casually walking down the street, whistling and generally enjoying myself. The air was crisp, the sun was just about to set, the park was lovely. I saw a bench and decided to rest my eyes for a bit before going back home to enjoy a nice dinner. I laid down on the bench, which was, fortunately, unoccupied. I sighed happily. This was a good day. The weather was amazing. Cool, but not too cold. A fresh breeze with the scent of sea salt. I made sure that I was comfortable, and closed my eyes.
I came to a half hour later from a flash of pain. I looked around to see what happened, and I saw HIM.....Jack Ernst....that darned Hyena. He had thrown a rock at me, and it hit me square on the head. He was with his gang, which consisted of Landon, a cocky Weasel, Benjamin Smith, a bull with extremely high testosterone levels, and Sage Gugel, a snarky dog who I shared all my classes with. They all were already preparing a second volley of stones, which were sharp and thin, perfect for penetrating dragon scales like my own. I growled to myself, aware of what was going to happen. They always did this at least once a month. They would follow me, and then they would attack me. I really really hated it. I still had a scar from the last time they assaulted me. They threw their second volley of stones, and although they didn't penetrate, they still hurt like hell. I was starting to get really angry. Jack came up to me, all smug and cocky. "What's up Nerd? You gonna cry? Awww....let me give ya something to cry about." He threw a punch at me, and it connected with my snout. I went down and hit the ground with a thud. Before I knew it, they were all around me, kicking me and laughing at me. I didn't know it then, but the prima dragon in me had enough of this harassment. Landon launched a kick at me, and I bit down on his shoe, hard. I bit so hard it went straight through his shoe and into his paw. He howled in pain, trying to shake me off. I let go of him and faced everyone. Enough was enough. My vision went red, and I went into a craze....
I only remember bits and pieces, but from what they told me once we made amends was disturbing. Landon needed to have his paw stitched up, Ben has deep cuts on his arms and chest from my claws, and Sage was knocked unconscious from a tail whip to the face. Jack got lucky. He only had minor cuts and scrapes on his legs. When I came to, they were running away, dragging the unconscious Sage with them. But they all had the same face on them. Fear. I looked down at my claws and licked my mouth. I saw and tasted blood. I had finally had enough. But despite getting my revenge, I felt guilt. I had hurt someone. This wasn't me. For three days I showered four times a day, trying to get the smell of blood off my scales. I had nightmares for a month, reliving that moment when I tasted and saw blood. I had hurt someone.......there was a primal instinct in me....one that best should be kept hidden....
(These bullies from the story I actually deal with in my life. I based their animal counterparts from their personality and behavior. But don't worry. They haven't thrown rocks at me or assaulted me. Only name calling and similar things. And no. I have not engaged in a fight before. The closest thing was sparring when learning about self-defense. Enjoy!)
