CHAPTER POINT OF VIEW: EMMA

Eat. Study. Work. Sleep. Repeat.

That's how my life feels like right now.

It's almost the middle of November and I have three days left to study before the beginning of my upcoming Year 11 exams.

And right now, during the time I am usually at school, I am here working at my job, a cafe in town.

Yes. Working.

Well, better than stressing over studying for exams, all I have to worry about now is serving customers, making coffees and cakes, and cleaning off the tables. Which calls for easy work.

I begin my day at work opening the coffee machine, prepped and primed for everyone to grab their coffees in their time down the street.

And now I'm working the waitressing for the lunchtime rush, something a little different than most of my normal weekend shifts. Yet I kinda do miss the comfort of the coffee machine...

But midday turned from ordinary to unexpected, when Joe Sugg walked into the very cafe that I was working at.

I mean, it was busy in here for a Saturday lunch time, and this is a smallish town here that I live and work in, but my mind went from Clean the only empty table left, quick! The little bell at the door just rung! to Oh my god! Joe. Freaking. Sugg. Just. Walked. In. The. Door!

"Is this table ready yet?" Joe asked me.

"Hello! Oh, yes. Here you are Joe." I say, trying to stay professional and calm at the same time, which was a challenge.

Joe smiled to himself as he took a seat at the nearly clean table, while I fetched a nearby menu.

"Thanks... Emma." Joe said as I handed him the first menu I could get.

I know he read my name tag like some of the polite customers that come here do, because they would pause in the middle of the sentence.

"Not a problem. Just excuse me whilst I finish cleaning off this table your sitting here at."

He moved out of my way as I wiped off the crumbs in front of him. Then I pick up the last saucer containing a glass with the last dregs of a cappuccino, and used napkin.

When I come back to bring Joe some clean cutlery and a couple of fresh napkins, I see some of the girls in my grade having selfies with them. I recognise them quickly, knowing who they are. The girls here I am not as close friends, but they are quite nice people, so I say "Hey!" and wave to them.

"Oh, hey Emma! Are you ready for Year 11 exams yet?" one of the girls said to me.

It was Natalie, who I had English and Art with her. We sit together in both of those classes since I don't have those classes with any of my close friends. She is quiet, but very friendly once you get to know her a bit.

"Oh Natalie, not quite... How about you Amy?" I say

"I am super ready!" the other girl named Amy, said, bouncing around after taking her picture with Joe.

Amy has English and Art with Natalie and I too, and is a superstar on the netball court.

"That's good, but for me, I really hope I don't muck up in our Art exam!"

Amy is also a talented drawer and painter. I mean don't get me wrong, I feel like I am OK with my art, but it is going to be a mostly practical exam, and any drawing parts, I worry I'll spend too much time that wouldn't be as necessary.

"Thank you so much Joe," Natalie says to him, and then says to me, "You're so lucky to be serving him, you know!"

"Oh, I know!" I reply, setting the cutlery and napkins onto the table.

"See ya!" Amy says to me.

"Bye," I say to the two girls, and then bring my attention back to Joe, who is looking at his phone, like he is reading something.

"Are you waiting for anyone else, or would you like to order now?"

"No, no one else. Could I please get the BLT with a side of chips and salad, and a glass of San Pellegrino, thank you." Joe says, handing me back the menu.

"Sure." I say, as I write up his order, and then I grab the menu from him.

"Oh, one more thing."

"Yes?"

"Please, stop being so polite; it's good but come and sit down here with me." Joe pulls out the chair beside him.

"Uhh.. OK. I mean, I'll just have to ask my boss if I can, and then I'll be right back." I say.

"No need. Excuse me madam?" Joe calls for Cindy, who is serving the table behind him their food.

"Yes, what can I do?"

"Can I have your boss for a second?"

I don't know how my day ended up like this, but I certainly didn't imagine me sitting at a table in a chair in front of Joe Sugg, whilst I was supposed to be working in the very same cafe we are sitting at.

For the whole time, Joe has been asking me questions about who I am and what I do and what I like and such and such... Basically about me.

"Emma." My boss, Michelle, approaches my table.

"Yes Michelle." I stand up, being polite and professional with her.

"Sorry to interrupt you both but Emma I'd like to have you back enough. May you please finish up with your break now, and come help me in the kitchen to clean some of the dishes? I also would like for you to help me help to make a new cheesecake for the display cabinet." Michelle replies.

"OK sure." I say as she leaves me to finish up talking to Joe.

A wave of sadness comes over me as I get up from the table and start gathering all of Joe's dirty dishes and the stuff from a few tables away from Joe's table. I was completely sure that a moment like this had never happened before where someone as a fan got to some time to spend with Joe Sugg,  with nobody else around. Well, excluding some more people who popped in because of all the places in Victoria Joe could be, he chose to be in our small little town here. And no one ever really comes down to our town.

I turn around, being polite and trying my best to not let my sadness show, "Good bye Joe. Thanks for letting me get the chance to meet you and to talk to you."

I start to make my way to the kitchen, winding my way through the maze of tables when Joe comes up to me and says, "Don't forget about your phone!"

He holds out my phone.

"Oh! Thank you, Joe!"

I smile, slightly blushing as I take my phone and slip it into the front pocket of my apron as I slip it back on, after taking it off when sitting down with Joe.

I have a new picture on my lock screen. It is a selfie of Joe and I, me looking a bit messy with my work clothes and white apron, and Joe looking as sexy as ever. I grin as my phone flashes on from a notification popping up from Instagram.

Instagram, where today of all the days, I am getting dozens more notifications than what I usually get because I got to sit down and chat to Joe, and then I posted our selfie, and everyone is going so crazy over it.

I'm buzzing. I'm blushing. I met Joe Sugg.
