"So, how was the hookup?" Nick turned his briefly amused gaze to me as I sped down the highway. I'm not sure how much he heard a couple of hours ago, but it seemed like he knew enough. Raising my brows at him, I didn't answer. I wasn't going to discuss that part of my life with him, although I used to but that was before Chloe. I just didn't think Chloe would appreciate it. After all, she was still a friend to him and his sister.
Hopefully.
"Fine, I was just trying to lighten up the mood." He murmured in disbelief, and I went faster. "Do you want us to get killed, man?"
"No, just trying to get my girl back." I responded. "And then I'll rip Raven's head off." My tone was ugly, my body was tensing for another fight.
"Jay–"
I groaned, I didn't want Nick to give me another speech. I got it, he wanted to do things lowkey. "I'm not in the mood."
"Look, it's not a good idea to fight Raven now. Chloe is already messed up and it'll make everything worse for her. Plus, the gang is there. You're not here to fight or kill anyone. Your main goal is to talk to Chloe." The emphasis on the word talk made want to roll my eyes.
"Damn right it's my main goal, and my other goal is to make this fucker suffer."
"Don't be so stupid." Nick stared at me, as if he was done with my bullshit. His eyes flared with anger, but he was good at hiding it. I knew Nick and how he ticked, he always tried to have a clear mind and handle situations without a fight. Maybe it's because he never really fought someone, at least I never saw him fight. He was more the hacking and computer genius kind of guy. But on the other hand, he knew how to shoot someone if he had to, this one I saw– He always got your back.
"I think it's called justice."
His gaze narrowed and his jaw tightened. "Calm down, will you? You know I always want the best for you. Seriously, just trust me. You have to listen to me. We won't fight anyone, it'll only make everything worse."
He had a point. "Fine. I'll just talk to Chloe."
Nick nodded, looking pleased. "Good. You also have to remember that if Chloe doesn't want to talk, you need to respect that. Don't cause a scene. If you can't get along with the rest of her members, she's really going to cut you off– for good."
I hated how easy it was for her to cut me off, just like she did in Stratford. Sometimes I wished I'd have never met her, but then I remember all the good memories and don't regret ever getting to know her. It was just the fact that I felt like I had her back, and now she was gone... again. "I'm so fucking tired of talking."
"I know." Nick sighed, rubbing his face with his hands. "Listen, if you cause a scene, she's not going to want to talk at all. Like this, you'll still have a chance. But if you fight, you'll only scare her off. So, even if you get the urge to fight anyone, don't do it. It's just going to look bad on your part."
"Okay, Nick. But if she doesn't talk to me, someone's getting fucked up." I arched my brow. "I don't care."
We pulled up in front of a house, I amused their warehouse, which looked much friendlier than Damien's warehouse, or Dean's. There was no graffiti on the walls and the windows weren't broken, it even had a doorbell. Ringing it with no second thoughts, the door was snatched open and revealed an angry Raven, who held an ice bag against his nose– I hid my smile.
Raven put down the ice bag. "Fancy seeing you and your little slave here."
I automatically felt anger. I strode towards him, ready to shove my fist into his smug face, but I restrained myself. "Is Chloe here?"
