I had Thursday off and it's a good thing too cause I woke up with the worst stomach ache of my life. I'd had a day at school last year where we all learned about getting our period and what to do. I rolled over in my bed trying to ease the pain and got up to go to the bathroom. The water was red and my new underwear were too, I checked my bed and sure enough my sheets were spotted but it didn't go through to the mattress. I bundled up some toilet paper and put in in my underwear and walked to the corner store and went to the pharmacy counter. There was a kind faced woman and she asked if she could help me, she could see I was in pain and scared. "I got my period " I mumbled and looked away as I felt the heat fill my face. "Oh hunny is it your first time?" I tried not to cry "Jim I'm gonna help this nice young lady for a minute I'll be right back." She helped me pick out some pads and a heating pad and some Mydol tablets for the cramps. She told me to wash my sheets and such in cold water and assured me I'd be ok. I double bagged my things and pulled the bag close not wanting anyone to see what I'd bought. After a couple Mydol and an hour on the heating pad I was feeling much better. I wondered if my mom would have helped me like this woman who didn't even know me did, I figured she probably wouldn't have. I wondered if I should go to the doctor but the pharmacist had told me I'd be ok in a few day no more then 7 usually so I'd just have to wait it out. I rolled over and went back to sleep . I heard a knock at the door and wondered "now what? I don't know anyone, who even knows I'm here?" I called out through the door "who is it?" Dan, just checking on ya, wanna make sure your ok." I let him in and he looked impressed. The windows were sparkling clean as was the rest of the apartment and the outdated 70s orange couch almost looked like it had always belonged there. I didn't have any other living room furniture except the picture of the flowers on the wall. I let him look around and then he noticed I was pale and somehow smaller then usual. "You ok kid? Are you sick?""No I just got my...I'm ok" He looked confused for a second then gave a knowing silent Oh face and said "well I'll let you rest dear, my wife Anna wanted me to ask you if you go to church ever? We got a real nice pastor and lunch after service most weeks if ya wanna come with us." I thanked him and said I'd see how I felt by Sunday "Your ok to work tomorrow right?" "Yep I'll be ok" I looked back at my bed and then chose the couch instead, I wanted to be in the sunshine, I really missed T.V., in 10 minutes I was asleep again.
