It Was A Perfect Day

"Are you coming?"

She stopped hitching her breath after I asked the question. "Uh" she slowly started to walk again.

"You don't have to."

"Okay, I'm going to study then" a half smile hinted at her lips. No she wasn't. But who am I to say.

"Okay." I turned around abruptly. After a moment of walking inside I decided to go back and walk home. I smiled.

There was a reason why I was trying hard to hang with her. A reason why I texted everyone more than I ever have. A reason why I seemed happier than normal. A reason why it was a perfect day to skip a ride home and walk instead.

It was a perfect day. The sky was blue and gray. Tufts of white fell silently. Fluries of cold kisses lightly touching my nose. The snow was so white no shadow could be seen. My breath was icey and clouded each exhale.

A small thing of snow fell from a tree as I walked by making me smile at the sight.

I walked alone seeing no one else around. As I got to a cross walk I took my time. The rushing car came to it's stop.

The now windy road next to me grew silent as less cars drove passed. One...two....one more....another. Cars came alone slowly and then none at all.

A hard clump caught my throat and my mouth grew dry but not from the cold air. A tear licked at my cheek trailing down slowly. I smiled a whimper leaving my lips. I looked down the drop fleeing to the ground melting at it's cold touch. I raised my head to the blissful snow seeing a car up ahead speed toward my direction. It's a perfect day.

The speeding car grew closer and closer as I slowed down. I waited for it to be closer before smiling I took a step out onto the road and then a small leap. I looked at the sky a cloud escaped my lips. I closed my eyes hearing the screech of the car grasping for it's break.

There was a reason why. I reason for everything. I know I didn't go the way most people wanted. I didn't go heroic but cowardly in the eyes of others.

I think the only sad part about this is I'll never know how the world reacts to a middle school girl jumping to her death with a smile.
