The first thought Tom had was going outside.
He didn't know why. He had a nagging feeling in his gut that he should. He knew that Tord was out there --- probably doing drugs or some shady crap. Tom could easily wake Edd and Matt up, show them that Tord wasn't there, and have them deal with him.
The thing was, Tom was grumpy. He woke up in the middle of the night. Someone was going to pay for that.
It was going to be Tord.
Tom hesitated before moving slightly. The bed creaked, and he winced. He was aware of every sound he made, sure that everyone in the house would wake up. It was worse than going to the bathroom in the middle of the night. At least with the bathroom you didn't get in trouble for needing to pee.
Fuck it. Edd's not my mom. He can't do crap about it.
Tom looked down, seeing a tree next to the window. That must have been how Tord had gotten out, he reasoned. He slowly reached out, feebly grabbing the edge of a branch.
He pulled himself out, slowly at first. Then, annoyed, he started to go faster, until he was completely in the tree. Ugh. Now there were leaves all over his bed. He shook his head. He'd clean that up later.
Or make Tord clean it up for him, he thought with an air of superiority. He'd have to, or else Tom would tell Matt and Edd where he'd gone.
If he could actually find him, that was.
It was dark. The moon shone brightly, and Tom felt the wind blowing through his hair. Normally, he'd be at peace. This was a pleasurable atmosphere, he admitted. But the thing was, being suspended stories above ground by a tree branch you were sure was going to snap wasn't the most zen circumstance.
"Dammit Tord." He muttered under his breath. He focused on a single thought running through his head. After all this I'll beat his ass.
That thought kept him going. He shuffled down the tree, landing on all fours and scraping his palms. He winced. Right in between the thumb and the index finger too. The worst place possible. He wring his hands out, looking around.
If Tord had been trying to run away, he hadn't done a good job hiding his trail. Maybe he had been thinking he was going to fix it on his way back, Tom allowed. Tord wasn't an idiot, unfortunately, so it was hard to see the signs. But the light of the moon lit the footsteps through the fallen leaves, and Tom found himself smiling.
What would he say once he got to Tord? Oh, he had a couple good words. Make him feel stupid, he snorted. Stupid and immature. Just like he always made Tom feel.
He stopped, frowning. The trail of footprints had stopped. He found his brow furrowing in annoyance. Did Tord choose now to be smart and hide his tracks?
No, Tom looked up. It wasn't that.
No one told Tom about the forest.
It was huge. Trees with dark bark, looming over him. The delicate leaves seemed to shine in the moonlight in an ominous way, and it made Tom blink. Surely there were animals here. Surely Tord wouldn't risk that.
The thing Tom knew about that commie was that he would. Tord was a risk taker.
Unfortunately.
Beat his ass. Remember. It'll be all worth it. Beat his ass.
Tom sighed and stepped forward, stroking the dark bark of the nearest tree. It was smooth and cold, and Tom found himself tracing the length of it. The trees really were beautiful.
Remember. Beat his ass. You can check out the trees later.
Tom yawned as he trudged through the forest, pulling leaves from his messy bed hair. He was starting to grow tired, his legs aching and his lack of eyes drooping. He was beyond annoyed now. Stupid Tord. Why the fuck did he come out here? Surely getting high wasn't worth all this.
Then, a voice echoed in his head. They got some business around here.
Tom frowned, more awake now. He had forgotten abut the gangs. They could be about right now, watching him. He didn't know why gangs would be in a forest --- that was a bit strange. But the thought nagged him as he kept going. Gangs. Tord. Could Tord be getting high with the gangs? Of course he would! He was Tord!
Tom shook his head. "I swear to god Tord..."
Then, he stopped. He heard something. Voices. He looked around frantically, not sure were to go. He wondered how those people in books and movies could randomly jump behind a bookshelf or a tree. He was rooted to the spot, unable to hide. Blood pounded in his ears as the voices grew near.
The gangs. The gangs. They were going to cut off his ears and nose with a pocket knife and do other unseemly things to his beautiful face.
So he ended up staying there, frozen, as three figures approached.
He couldn't even take them in. His brain was on the fritz, half terrified and half angry. Angry because he recognized one of them. Standing there, cocky as hell, stood Tord.
"Thomas?" His voice sounded cold, clipped.
"Tord. Tord what the fuck. I feel like I should slap you right now."
The man on his right, one with bushy eyebrows, spoke up. "You know this man, Red Leader?"
"Yes, unfortunately."
"What?" Tom blinked in confusion before anger overrided him again. "I had to get out of bed, Tord. Bed. Do you know how precious sleep is?"
"Glad to see you care so much, Thomas."
The two men chuckled under their breaths.
"It's Tom." Tom grinded his teeth together, taking a step forward. "Explain yourself right now, or I'll tell Edd and Matt. I'll tell them everything, Red Leader." He made air quotes, glaring at the man with bushy eyebrows.
"You can't tell them anything if you're not conscious."
"Wh---" Tom's angry quip was cut off by a sharp pain to his thigh. He fell over, gasping and looking down. His hands clasped around what was lodged in, and they were coated in blood.
A tranquilizer. A fucking tranquilizer. Someone from behind him had stabbed it in.
That's all he had time to think before he blacked out.
