Undyne trudged through the muck in Waterfall, her slime caked boots seemed to pull her further and further into the water with each step; though that was probably her imagination. Each step seemed harder to take until she was frozen. Her tired yellow eyes looked out as she stood at the edge of Waterfall, watching the murky blue water tumble down the cliff.

She dropped to her knees, not caring about the wet jeans or lab coat. The water rushing around her as quickly as her thoughts, the thoughts that haunted her. Through every and night her failures surrounded her and at this point she was terrified.

Undyne looked over the edge. "Would they even care?"

Anxiously she twisted her shirt in her hands then placed them at her sides gripping the mud underwater. She leaned further towards the black abyss threatening to swallow her.

The thoughts of the amalgamated floated across her mind, the thought of the families anxiously awaiting their return. How would she face them? How could she face them after what had happened, after what she had caused.

She leaned closer.

Undyne clenched her eyes closed, gritting her teeth together. She couldn't do it anymore, these horrid thoughts had taken control of her psyche, consuming her with its crippling disappointment. She needed to escape. She had to be free.

And with that thought Undyne let go of the ledge.

Undyne felt her heart race as she fell downward, maybe out of adrenaline or possibly fear, but there was no going back now. This was it. This was the end.

But suddenly the falling sensation stopped. Undyne felt a tugging on soul, holding her over the abyss. A sinking feeling began to settle in the pit of Undyne's stomach as she hovered, she'd been caught.

In an instant Papyrus materialized in front of her. His normal casual smirk was replaced by an expression she had never seen on the skeleton, a look of pure panic. Papyrus carefully placed her back in the water, her boots sinking into the mud below her. He gripped her arms tightly, his panicked look now replaced with one filled with concern. She stood rigid in his arms, eyes wide and unfocused staring blankly in front of her.

Papyrus craned his neck to look her in the eyes. "Undyne?"

She didn't respond, her eyes remained wide and still.

He called to her again shaking her a bit. "Undyne!"

The fishwoman's head snapped up to meet his gaze, her eyes were wide but with fear as she looked into Papyrus's eye sockets. Papyrus was a bit taken aback by it. He saw the panic creep into her features as her breathing began to quicken. Without another Papyrus pulled Undyne into a tight hug.

He felt the small figure melt into his arms, she was shaking. He chose to comfort her.

"Shhh... It's alright you're okay."

She buried her head further into his chest. He felt a sob escape her and he proceeded to holding her tighter and rocking her back and forth so slightly.

"P-pap, I-I'm-"

"I know Dyne you don't have to talk about it."

She looked up at him, his tired eye sockets gazed back at her. She took a moment to study them. It was a soft look filled with concern, but there was something else in them. She couldn't quite pin point it. She buried her head back into his chest, listening to his soul pounding frantically.

After a small silence, Papyrus spoke, "Undyne, I need you to know that monsters down here care about you. You can always come to me and Sans and Alphys."
