The three students stepped off the train and onto the train station platform of Hogsmeade. A large man - no, an enormous man was waiting with a lantern calling over the first years. As they walked, y/n noticed that the girl from the train, Hermione, was walking alone. y/n walked over to her and smiled as she walked along beside her. Hermione smiled back, thankful.
After a boat ride across the lake, all the new first years were told to head up a flight of stairs. y/n was at the front with the other three she had met on the train. Waiting for them, was an old looking witch who wore a large pointy witches hat and emerald green robes. She had a stern look on her face and was quite intimidating. She stood in front of a large door that y/n assumed led to the great hall.
"Welcome to Hogwarts! Now, in a few moments you will go through these doors and join your classmates but first, you must be sorted into your houses. They are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin." She said the last house a bit more sternly than the others. She explained that the houses were like your family and the actions you made, good or bad would either win or lose your house points "And at the end of the year, the house with the most points will be awarded the house cup-"
"Trevor!" A boy yelled once he saw his toad, looked like Neville found him, but how did he get in the castle? The group laughed and Neville apologised as he rejoined them.
The woman sighed "The sorting ceremony will begin momentarily," and she went back into the room behind her. y/n was about to ask Harry about the houses when a voice was called.
"So it's true then, what they're saying on the train" it started. y/n and the rest of the first years turned towards the sound, the boy was pale with platinum blonde hair and wore a devilish smirk, "Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts," This started chatter to go around about Harry and the blonde stepped forward. "This is Crabbe and Goyle," he said referring to the two much larger boys standing behind him. "And I'm Malfoy" he stepped forward "Draco Malfoy"
Ron stifled a laugh which earned him a glare from Draco
"Think my name is funny, do you?" Malfoy began harshly, "No need to ask for yours, red hair, and a hand me down robe, you must be a Weasely," The way he said Ron's name so full of disgust made y/n's blood boil, who was he to go around thinking he was all it and a bit, she couldn't stand it. y/n pushed past Hermione and stood in front of Ron defending him.
"Sod off Malfoy, we've been here what, 3 minutes? And you already think you own the place!" y/n spat at Draco, she wouldn't let anyone insult her friends. Draco wasn't expecting anyone to stand up to him, so when y/n intervened a mixture of surprise and rage bubbled inside him. How dare she? He looked her up and down, her h/c hair was out and flowed down her back. Her e/c eyes were glaring at him and he glared back with as much hate.
"You'll soon come to realize Potter, that some wizarding families are better than others" He turned back to Harry who was in the middle of all of this. "you don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort" He glared at Ron and y/n, "I can help you there," And then he held out his hand to Harry, offering his friendship- no, acceptance.
Harry looked at the pale outstretched hand and then dead into Malfoy's eyes, "I think I can tell the wrong sort of myself thanks," He replied calmly. Draco's face fell in annoyance but before he could respond, The witch came up behind him and tapped him on the should with a scroll.
"We're ready for you now" she announced
Ron looked over to y/n and gave him a smile of thanks. Harry also gave a nod and then they all followed the woman to the doors which opened to reveal the great hall.
The room had four very long tables at which the students were sat in their specific houses. At the end of the hall was the teacher table and in the very centre was professor Dumbledore.
