A few months had passed ciels mother had married william things where as good as they could, ciel tried to get along with his new family he still spent time with just his mother, that time would be making the meals it was something he loved as no one bothered them since claude and alois thought it was below them to prepare food, as they were sons of an earl when william married ciels mother he became an earl

But soon ciels mother got sick, ciel spent every minute looking after her william and his sons did nothing besides go to parties throw them, ciel was furious william was her husband and yet did nothing he started to hate his family besides his mother, one night ciel was playing the violin for his mother since she had asked she smiled as he played, he didn't like to play much but for his mother he would at the drop of a hat

When ciel finished he sat on the bed and said "do you need anything mother?" she put her hand by his cheek and said "no ciel, will you promise me something" he nodded and said "yes, what mother?" she smiled and said "be like your father ciel, be kind alright even to those who aren't" he said "mother?" she coughed and said "I know you don't like william and his sons at the moment, so please tell me honestly ciel"

He took a deep breath and said "yes, you are sick I am the one looking after you, they are out going to parties throwing them when they should be helping me take care of you, I know william or father visits but it's like he doesn't care mother, and his sons my brothers haven't visited once" she hugged ciel and said "ciel, people show feelings in different ways promise me you will take care of everything ciel, the house them there father has always been strict they are not used to love and kindness, I'm sure with the kindness you show they will come to show it to"

Ciel thought 'I don't think they will, alois is too loud and obnoxious and claude is like william, never speaking always harsh with his words when he dose but I'm a phantomhive I keep my word, and if that is to stay and show them kindness then I will do as I have promised' ciel nodded and said "I will mother, even if I do not like them or how they are I will put it to one side and remain and keep my promise, to you mother" she gave a small smile and said "thank you ciel" she pulled his head down and gently kissed his forehead and said "will you play for me again ciel? the song your father would play"

He said "of course mother, is there anything you want before?" she said "no I am fine" ciel said "alright, ill play as much as you wish mother" she giggled and said "well I'll get you to play until I'm sick of it" ciel smiled and played throughout the night, soon he looked at the time it was 11 he sighed and thought 'there out, and will probably return late' ciel looked at his mother she just smiled and called ciel over, he went over and knelt down she held his hand and said "ciel, keep these words in your heart alright" he nodded she said "be kind ciel, because kindness is a great strength sometimes the kindest thing is to be harsh"

Ciel didn't understand, his mother said "you may not understand now but you will one day ciel, you are so much like your father I see it more and more in you each day be a fine young man, find someone you love and be happy promise me that find someone who you can live with and to always be kind to those around you, because kindness will lead you to things you could never believe you may encounter many hardships but you can overcome most with kindness that you have shown, and kindness others have shown you ok" ciel nodded

His mother smiled kissed his head again hugged him and said "I love you ciel more than anyone else my son, my child be happy and remember what I said and keep those words in your heart" ciel nodded, his mother started to close her eyes ciel stood up and said "mother!" she smiled and said "I'm sorry ciel, but I have to I love you ciel and I always will more than anyone and anything, more than words could every say my baby boy" with that she closed her eyes ciel said "mother? mother!" his eyes had tears his legs gave out and he cried, he hadn't cried in years the last time he'd cried like this was his father, ciel held his mother's hand and cried his head resting on the bed
