I've always fancied performances since I was a child. The thrill of entertainment, pumping my adrenaline Always wanting to show my family and few friends that I could do things like memorize lines and phrases and performing them dramatically.
Since my freshmen year of high school, I kind of wanted to try out for the school's drama club but I never even attempted to due to the massive amount of rumors about what goes on there. I've heard it's basically where a bunch of students hang out and get baked all day long and put up a simple performance about three times a year.
The reason I believed this theory was because I remember last year walking around campus and when I passed the auditorium, it held a strong fragrance of a weird woodsy odor. I've never been in contact with drugs so I wouldn't really know what it smelt like but if I could figure out that scent, I'd think it was weed.
Now, I'm not a hundred percent sure if these rumors are true but if they were, then there went my little shred of hope of actually being able to perform on stage. Not as like the lead or anything, that'd be terrifying. More like a small role in something.
Turning around, I simply headed for my next class ignoring the bright flyer.
I could hear Riley snatching the paper from the wall and watched when she walked next to me, folding it and neatly put it in her bag. I could feel her gaze burning into the side of my head when I looked forward.
Finally turning to face her due to the uncomfortable feeling, I raised a questioning brow.
"You are trying out right?" she asked.
"For?" I pressed although I knew what she was referring to.
"The drama club, of course," Riley crossed her arms in front of her chest. I remember during middle school, when Riley's chest used to not look anything like they do now. They used to be smaller, flat I may say. Now, they were bigger I guess that's one reason why many of the male specimen found her attractive. But ever since the summer, where she spent with her dad in California, her body sort of changed.
And not in the good way either. It made me nervous. She made me nervous.
But I grew used to the feeling and welcomed it. I mean she's still the same Riley I grew up with. Just a little more mature.
I looked away from her.
"No."
"Why not? You used to always love performing in front of me when we were kids. I remember when you and I used to always put up shows for our parents and they'd have to pay a dollar each just to see our act," she said grinning at the memory.
I have to admit, I used to always love doing that with Riley when we were little. But now, it just feels different. "Yeah but that was when I just acted in front of you guys. Not in front of the whole school," I pointed out.
Being in the comfort of your own bedroom, in front of your mirror and saying lines to your own reflection was one thing, doing that in front of your whole school who pretty much think you don't exist was a whole other thing.
I took an interest in acting. I know that's not exactly the most macho thing a guy can do but hey sports and me don't exactly see eye to eye with each other. I honestly enjoyed becoming a whole new character and seeing life in other perspectives rather than try and to live my own uneventful life.
The fact that the drama department was ran by the well known students of the school who had their own reputations and could also break others didn't exactly help my self esteem.
