Usually after school, Riley would either come to my house or I'd go to hers and we'd just sit around our rooms and watch movies then do our homework together.
I finally came to view of my medium sized house, there really wasn't any reason to expand since it was just my father, mom, and I. When I squinted my eyes, since the sun was pretty much blinding me, I could see a familiar white Lexus parked in my driveway. And I already knew Riley was here.
Hopping off my bike, I guided it towards the backyard and locked it up in the garage. Opening the door in the garage that lead to my room, which was a cool advantage, I found Riley sprawled across my bed flat on her stomach carelessly tossing movies onto my carpeted floor.
"Hey, hey! Careful with those, they're classics," I complained picking them up and setting them neatly on my beside table.
Riley just rolled her eyes and continued tossing the movies one by one on the floor judging on which one to watch. In the end, we ended up watching Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
After a few hours of movies, pre-calculus, and biology homework, my mom called us down for dinner.
My mom pretty much treated Riley as if she were her own daughter. She's always wanted another child after she realized that once I leave high school for college, she'll be all alone without someone to take care of. She's kind of over protective.
"Race you down to the kitchen," Riley said grinning already running towards the door and to the dining room.
"No fair!" I called out to her but I doubt she heard me.
When I finally made it to the dining room, I caught sight of my mom, father, and Riley, who I must say was sitting rather comfortably next to my mom with her hands folded neatly in her lap with a smirk plastered on her face.
She was clever enough to have chosen a seat next to someone who completely adored her. If she hadn't, I'm pretty sure my father wouldn't have minded if I had attacked her, although he'd scold me for it.
Mom however, would have grounded me for an eternity until we were both in the grave.
Looking at Riley straight in the eyes, I gave her a low growl and a warning look that would freeze my blood if I were the one receiving.
Riley put on an innocent act in front of my parents but still had a pleased look on her face.
I took a seat in front of my best friend and sat down. A few minutes into dinner which consisted of pasta and meatballs with steamed carrots, the house phone rang.
My mother stood up from her chair as if she was expecting this call, excused herself, and went to answer the phone before I my ears could bleed from all the annoying ringing. But when she picked it up, the room was silent enough for me to make out what she was saying.
"Hello?"
"Oh is that so?"
"How long?" I heard her say skeptically.
Then it was silent until I heard my mom finally reply.
"I suppose that'll be alright,"
"Of course."
"We'll be waiting with a big welcome from him."
And with that, I heard the other end's dialing tone. But not before I heard her quietly muttering a few words, which if I'm not mistaken held my name quietly, and a farewell.
