Chapter 6
I double checked my appearance in my mirror one more time before walking down the stairs and into the kitchen, where my mom was finishing dinner. I had done myself up a little bit for my date, curling my hair and putting some make up on. I didn't even look like myself, but I wanted to make sure I looked good and made a good impression on Briar. My mom grinned when she saw me.
"Juliet, sweetie, you look stunning! This boy is going to be staring at you all night." She said with a smile. I laughed. My dad came in behind me and looked me up and down.
"Now, I don't approve. You look to beautiful, I'm afraid he won't be able to keep his hands off of you." My dad said with a wink. I couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"Thanks mom, thanks daddy." I blushed a bit. I wasn't used to being called beautfiul or pretty, I wasn't exactly the most attractive girl in the world. Matt walked in at the moment and whistled, making me blush even more.
"Whoa, who are you and what have you done with my sister?" I slapped him and turned back to my parents.
"I have one rule for tonight. No embarassing me!" I almost shouted. My dad looked hurt.
"Why, of course not! I'm offended you would even suggest a thing." I started to laugh when I heard a knock at the door, making my heart jump. I pretty much ran to the door and opened it. I almost gasped. Briar was standing there, looking amazingly cute. He was holding a bouquet of roses, and he looked amazing in his jeans and cowboy boots. I could feel my face getting red in a good way.
"Hey, you look great," he said with a smile. I knew my face got even redder. I suddenly got really shy.
"Thanks, you to. Um, come in!" I replied. He walked in and my dad shook his hand. I introduced Briar to the rest of my family, and my mom said dinner would be ready in fifteen minutes.
"Um, in the meantime, do you want to see my horse?" I asked, then regretted it. Was that a stupid question? Thankfully, he said he wanted to and we walked out to the barn. As we were walking out there, I caught Briar staring at me.
"So, Juliet, I have a question," he announced, looking me in the eye. I blushed again and looked away, rubbing my arms.
"Sure, anything," I reply with a smile. We both look at eachother, only he is the first to look away this time. I knew something was bothering him, and I was a little worried. Was this my fault? Was he going to say he didn't really want this date? Of course, the worse case scenarios played through my mind.
"Well, I just wanted to make sure you didn't feel like you were forced to go on this date. I mean, I feel like Ariel kind of made you. I get you probably don't like me that way, but -"
"Briar, stop. I do like you. This date had nothing to do with Ariel." I cut him off. I felt kind of guilty that he felt that way. I mean, clearly its not true, I liked Briar, alot. He was amazing. I mean, I think. He grinned and looked at me.
"Cool. So, which one is your horse?" I hadn't realized we were in the barn until he said something. I shook my head, clearing my head of thoughts, and walked over to Lacey's stable.
"This is Lacey. She's my baby girl. Lacey, this is Briar." I said, sticking my hand out to her. She moved her muzzle so my hand rested against it. I smiled to myself and turned to Briar.
"She's a really beautiful horse." He stated. I laughed. That was an understatement. I told him that dinner would probably be ready by now, and we could ride after. I showed him the horse he would be riding, my brother's, Chester. Chester sneezed snot all over Briar, which I thought was kind of cute, but Briar complained about it.
