The Ring

I decided to walk the 2 blocks to Becky's house, although I could've taken my car. Not many people in my grade had a car already, but I got mine for having all A's since elementary school. About one minute into my walk, I was marinating in regrets. The sun beat me furiously, and at that rate I was going to arrive at her house as a puddle of sweat. I continued walking with my head down to avoid the sun. Suddenly, something collided into my chest, and I stumbled backward. I heard my glasses fall into the sidewalk.
"Woah there buddy are you okay?"
I could barely see, but I knew who it was just by her voice and her blurry outline. My heart was racing as I put my glasses back on.
"Oh hey Becky what are you up to? I was just on my way to your house," I said.
"Oh that's funny cause I was on my way to yours. So.... your house or mine?"
I felt my face get hot, and it wasn't cause of the sun.
"Well we better go to yours since it's closer by. You're already looking sunburnt," she said.
Becky led the way and I followed behind her in a daze.
Becky knew where my house was because we used to play together as kids. As we grew older, we started to separate and hang out with our own "cliques". I guess all this time she never forgot.
When we got there we just sat in my living room enjoying the air conditioning. She was just chilling on the sofa with her eyes closed. I stared at her every chance I could. She was so beautiful. I noticed how much darker she got from the sun. My eyes glanced from her face to her breasts. They were outlined by the sweat that drenched her shirt.
        "Jude!"
I quickly looked up and saw my mom.
"Let me know if you both need anything for your project."
"Okay mom," I said as she left.
I blushed and looked back at Becky, and blushed even harder because she was already looking at me.
        "Let's do this, science boy."

For the next few weeks, Becky and I were inseparable... um not like that. It was like an experimental test-subject-y relationship. It was okay for me as long as I was close to her, and it was okay for her as long as she got an A. The nerdy-ness inside me had fun taking DNA samples from her. I had strands of her hair, saliva, dead skin, etc. But the hopeless romantic inside me labeled them in jars such as; "hair from the love of my life", "saliva from the love of my life", "dead skin from the love of my life".  I think my love for her drove me insane- mad scientist insane, that is.

  "Okay Becky, it's finally finished."
"Oh my goodness! I love you!" She exclaimed as she squeezed me tight into a hug. If only she really meant it...
"Now what is it?" She asked, becoming calmer and stepping away from me.
"Behold, the Mood Ring!" I exclaimed.
I held up the Ring, which had the appearance of a giant, color changing hula hoop.
"Well, what the hell does it do?" She smiled.
I explained to her that it was infused with her DNA, so she was the only one who could control it.
"Control it? What in the world am I going to control while carrying a giant hula hoop around?"
I didn't answer. Instead I looked her in the eyes and handed her the Mood Ring. All of a sudden the ring turned blue and a force threw me backwards. Then, the ring turned orange and Becky completely disappeared.
"Becky!" I called out dramatically holding my arm out toward the Mood Ring, and where she disappeared.
"What loser?" Called her voice, laughing.
             Becky reappeared.
"Woah that was intense," I said, even paler than usual.
"Tell me what just happened?" She said, dropping the Mood Ring at her feet.
I explained to her that the Mood Ring has a different power, depending on the mood she is feeling. Whenever she touches it, that power will activate. Each color it turns represents a power/mood. However, there is one error in my project. I don't know what color matches what mood, or what power matches with each one. I had to figure that out-and fast.
"When I flew backwards, how were you feeling?"
"Nervous about trying this thing," she replied quietly.
"When I called out your name, how were you feeling?"
"Scared and surprised from the power of the ring," she said.

I copied in my experiment journal: Blue-Nervous-creates forcefield.

Orange-Scared or surprised- camouflage, which makes you invisible to human eye.

I had to make Rebecca feel every emotion before the end of this summer.
