"Jude, are you sure your parents are okay with a girl sleeping over?"
"Absolutely. I mean, I told her it was all in the name of science... I mean, it is. What about your dad?"
"I'm pretty sure he doesn't care. Ever since my mom left, he's just always at work or gone. Whenever he's home it's like- he's not there..."
Becky lowered her eyes and a tear escaped. I quickly tossed her the Mood Ring, and bubbles shot out of her hands.
"What a useless power. But pretty bubbles," she said as her eyes lit up.I wrote in my journal: yellow- sad-shoots bubbles from hands.

Later that night, we were all science-ed out. We just decided to camp out in the living room and watch a movie. I brought out some sleeping bags, popped popcorn and waited for Becky to get out the shower so I could go next, of course.
"Okay your turn Jude cause you smell like an experiment," laughed Becky as she walked out with her hello kitty pajamas. If I were a cartoon character, my eyes would have turned to hearts, or even stars.
As I walked in the bathroom, I noticed she left her perfume on the counter. I couldn't resist, I sprayed some on my wrist. "Aaaahhh" I sighed as I breathed in her scent. I looked up and realized she was staring at me from the doorway.
"Uuuuh what are you doing?" I asked her nonchalantly.
"Ummm getting my perfume. What are you doing, ya weirdo?" She asked.
I realized I was still sniffing my wrist, and quickly put my hand to the side.
"Oh uh nothing here you go," I quickly shoved her perfume towards her, awkwardly hitting her boob in the process and slammed the door in her face. But not on purpose. Shit. Ugh. I'm such a nerd.As I sat on the couch with Rebecca, I realized I was living the dream. It didn't matter to me that she didn't love me *cough cough* yet *cough*, and I was glad I wasn't a guy who said stuff like "I'm going to make her fall in love with me before this summer" or "I'm going to make her fall in love with me before high school ends." I was just happy that this summer I felt one step closer, and I was grateful for these last few days I had left to be close to her. Like really close. Well, arms touching close.
"Beck."
Her big brown eyes looked up at mine. Beck was what I called her way back when I first met her.
"Yes?" She said.
"I really enjoyed doing this with you this summer-uh- the project I mean, you're an amazing person to experiment on, and I -"
"You're amazing too," she said.

When I woke up, Becky was fast asleep and drooling on my chest. I wiped it away with my shirt. What an angel. I quickly got up without waking her. She smiled and murmured something in her sleep.
I wondered if the Mood Ring worked in sleep. I grabbed the ring and gently placed her hand around it. It turned pink, and she began to float. I quickly snatched it out of her hands, but it was too late. She fell out the air and hit the couch, hard.
"Jude what the fuck!" Becky gasped, awakening.
"Shhh my parents are sleeping," I whispered with my hand to my mouth.
Becky frowned and slowly closed her eyes again.
"By the way, what were you dreaming about?"
She quickly opened her eyes and her rosy cheeks turned a shade darker.
"You."
