I spent over half an hour typing this for someone so I might as well share it to you guys too.
> Find some inspiration. Every writer has one, you just gotta find yours for yourself.
> Think of your target audience. Who do you think will read the story? Teens? Adults? Youngsters? Would foul language and innuendos be alright for the people who will read or should I keep it PG? Questions like these are important as what you write can and will affect the mindset of each individuals.
> Use proper warnings. Prior to the first statement, warnings such as mature content or content warnings are a must before the story to warn the readers beforehand.
> Give credit where credit is due. Failure to give credits to rightful owners can lead you to be sued for either plagiarism or theft. Art is included here.
> Learn to use proper grammar. The punctuations, , spellings, capitalizations, pauses, uses of tenses, just to name a few. No matter what language you use, this will always be important.
> Stick to one verb of tense. I tend to make this mistake a lot even up to now. When you use past tense, stick to past tense until the end. If present tense, use present tense. If future tense, use future tense.
> Observe proper paragraph breaks. Long paragraphs will easily tire out readers. Shortening the paragraphs will make it easier to read. The standard amount of sentences per paragraph is 3 to 5.
> As much as possible, avoid using emojis within the story. Reading 😀 sentences 😁 like 😂 this 😯 tend 😉 to 😆 get 😁 really 😃annoying 👏👏👏 😐😄😄😄 But outside the story is fine.
> Don't use text lingos, in other words, dont type like dis bc ur story wont b as appealing as u want it 2 b. But outside your story is fine.
> Make sure the reader can be aware whether what they are reading is the past or present of the story. Flashbacks are a commom thing to use, so make sure there's some sort of hint to let them know that it is a flashback.
> Don't rush yourself; work at your own pace. Wanting to write and get it done asap will often lead to a low quality, but taking too long can lead you to lose interest. Think things through, but not too thorough. Write down a draft of your plotline first, then edit them as you go. Usually this method leads me to better ideas and sometimes that sudden burst of new ideas that I can add to the plotline.
> Before making a chapter public, proof read your story first. I tend to forget to do this part, but it is important as you will be able to find any errors such as typos and mispunctuations.
> Don't be scared of cliches. It happens, and it can't be avoided. Your creativeness is the only key to make that cliche into something greater and unique.
> We are flawed, and so are the characters. The last thing you want to have is one-dimensional, Mary Sue characters. Everyone's got their own different struggles and weakpoints, and you gotta make sure you characters have it too. For example, this one character may be the most perfect being anyone thinks to exists but really they have insecurities and cries themself to sleep every night.
> Balance is the key. Some people think that pure angst and sadness make the best plots, but there has to be sunshine and fluffiness as well. Even in stories, life is like a wheel: it has its ups and downs, it's never always the same.
> Diversity is important. Not only in the physical aspects and races but in the mentality as well.
> Practice makes perfect. You can write and write and write, but don't forget to learn along the way.
I think there is more but Google exists to help you out more ^_^
