"Zak! Come back to us! You need to respawn!" A faraway voice shouted. "Please Zak! We need you! Come to the gathering place when you can!"

I gasp, sitting upright.

What was that? Who was that person? How did they know my name?!

All these questions run through my head as I struggle to my feet.

The respawn. Of course. Every time I'm near death, I respawn in a different place.

But where am I now? What happened to cause my death again?

I run my hands through my hair and start to walk towards the setting sun.

It was one of the few things I remembered when I respawned- my name, how to survive, how many times I have respawned, and how to efficiently travel. I never remember anything else.

I stop walking as I realize something.

I don't know how many times I've respawned. This isn't supposed to happen. I never forget how many times I respawn. I check my wrist- since I mark down every time that I respawn, and no marks are there.

I continue walking, knowing that the sun will set, and the monsters will come out soon.

I need supplies. I need food, I need shelter, and I need tools. The best I can hope for is a cabin or an small village in the forest.

I break into a light jog, so I can move a little faster without wasting all my energy.

I hear a branch snap, and my head snaps up, looking around. Nothing is there. Thinking it's just my imagination, I keep walking, not wanting to be caught by anything.

By the time darkness really begins to set in, I find a clearing in the forest, and I gather some old sticks from a nearby tree. I hear something rustle in the tree next to me, and I quicken my pace.

As the forest around me awakens with the sounds of night, I hurry back to the clearing, only to find a camp fire already there.

As I reach the edge of the clearing, and slowly walk the perimeter to make sure no one is here. I whirl around to the sound of something walking around.

"W-What's out there?! Show y-yourself!" I shout into the night. It's a risk, but it's all I can't think of doing.

Someone starts chuckling behind me, and I feel something press against the back of my neck.

"I don't suggest you move that pretty little head of yours. Or else you may lose it." Someone says behind me. The voice is deep- too deep to be normal.

"Who are you?" I ask, as my body begins to shake. I have a feeling that I know, but I hope that I'm wrong.

"You know who I am, Zak." The figure said. "You will figure out the rest soon enough."
