A September Night

I don't know why I came to this dance. I knew I should not have let my friends drag me here. Here I am, standing alone while everybody is dancing with another to a slow song. It's been like this all night. I knew this would happen. My friends would somehow convince me to come because it would be the best night of my life, but what do they do? They leave me shortly after getting here, resulting in me being in my current position-- the only one not dancing.

I watch as girls dance with their dates, leaning their heads against the boys' shoulders. The scene would be pleasant to watch if I wasn't alone. Girls in beautiful, flowing homecoming dresses and guys in tuxedos, their bows matching their dates' dresses. Black, silver, and white balloons cover the ceiling and matching streamers hang against the walls. Tables of the same color sequence are placed around the perimeter of the room and a band is playing the night's music.

Now of course, the dance would not be complete without it being a masquerade ball. Our school throws a masquerade homecoming every year and it hasn't been a bum yet. Every single person, even the teachers, is wearing a mask, ranging from simple white ones to sparklingly, moon theme masks. I, myself, am wearing a simple blood red mask-- which my friends say compliment my green eyes greatly-- with a dark red and black tuxedo.

I sigh and run a hand through my thick hair. I really shouldn't have expected anything more than this. Why should I? I barely speak to anybody at school, and the reason behind it is not because I'm shy. I just choose not to talk to people. They and I don't click and have nothing in common, so I don't even try.

I contemplate on whether or not to blow this popsicle stand, but after heated several minutes in my mind, I decide not to. If I left, Kaden, Daesha, and Korrie would most definitely give me an ear full about it.

Lifting my cup to my red lips, I notice it's empty. I  go over to the food table and fill my cup with strawberry kiwi punch and since I'm already over here, I make the wise decision to take cookies as well. Grabbing a few soft M&M cookies, I turn and once again watch the dancing couples. Several times, my friends glance at me and a couple times, they silently ask me if I want to have a turn dancing, but I refuse all their offers.

I would hate to interrupt their fun, especially Kaden's and Korrie's. They have been on the edge of a relationship for who knows how long. The only reason they aren't a couple yet is because neither have the guts to tell the other and they won't let Daesha nor me interfere. As for Daesha, she is dancing with some guy she may actually fancy, which is rare. Daesha has never wanted a boyfriend and hasn't even really liked a guy either, even though she could have any guy she wanted. Tonight could change that though, so I won't do anything to ruin it. I continue watching them and can't help but notice they all look stunning.

Daesha, the most beautiful of us all, is dressed in a beautiful gray-blue dress with equally beautiful make-up. The dress has a empire waist enclosed by a thin sparkling gold belt and the straps cross over each other, making an "x". It flows loosely, falling down to her sandal clad feet. Her makeup is Ancient Egyptian inspired, done in blue and black eyeshadow and rose gold lipstick. She has two-winged eyeliner applied to the top of her eyelids and below them, it goes down into a small swirl. Hiding her makeup, she has on a black and gold Egyptian jackal mask. Finishing the look, her black hair falls straight pass her shoulders and her bangs stop at about mid forehead.

Korrie is wearing a simple, but stunning outfit. The top is a perfectly fitting, off shoulder long-sleeve and is a soft honey, complimenting her light hazelnut skin to the max. It's tucked under a magnificent skirt. Her skirt is made of a velvet-like material, laying directly below her knees. Her feet are clad in black Doc Martens with laces matching the top. Her makeup is done up in a simple black smoky eye and light pink lipgloss framed by light brown curly hair. Topping off her outfit, a shimmering gold mask is wrapped loosely around her head.
