Today is the day we get to pick what part time job we want, and I still have no clue what to choose. I have been here six months and so far the only thing I am good at is knocking people unconscious. Training with Eric has been pushed to after hours because they want us to hang at our new jobs for a couple of hours, so I have two hours to kill. I head down to the bar, for lack of anything better and see Eric and Max sitting at the bar. Not wanting to deal with Eric's mood swings, I sit further down.
"Hey Tia, what can I get for you." Jeff asks.
"A watermelon margarita please."
Nodding he walks off to make my drink. I come in here time from time even when I am not drinking. I just enjoy Jeff's company.
"Well well, what do we have here?" I hear a Peter from behind me.
Jeff brings me my drink and gets Peter's order before walking off.
"Come on Rose, I just want to talk to you." He slurs.
"Fine, what do you want?" I say already irritated.
"I want to make a proposition."
"You have until I finish this drink." I say taking a long drink.
"Join my team." Peter slurs out in a rush.
His words are so sudden that I almost choke on my drink. We start arguing about why it would be a good idea or not. Finally I start tuning him out and listen to people fail epically at karaoke. I look up and see Jeff standing in front of me.
"Can you do me a favor?" He asks.
"Only if it gets me away from Peter." I say smiling.
"I need you to get up on stage and sing."
My face immediately drops and for a minute I think that he is joking.
"I don't sing." I say.
"Please, you can't be any worse than these guys. They are starting to drive people away, and I am only having karaoke night because the band couldn't make it." Jeff pleads.
I look around the bar and see people getting ready to leave. I like Jeff, and I want to help him, but I don't sing. Peter is staring at me as if expecting something, and I would love nothing more than to get away from him. Looking around one more time I catch eyes with Eric and his gaze is so intense that I have to look away.
"I'll do it, only if I can get some Jack Daniels first." I say.
Jeff smiles and goes to get my drink. I start to go over songs in my head until Jeff comes back with my drink.
"I already told the DJ what song to play, and don't argue because I know you know it. I heard you singing it one night in the hall." He says smiling then he walks away.
I down my drink and make my way to the stage as the guy up there finishes. Taking the mic I look back at Jeff and he just smiles and gives me a thumbs up. The music starts to play and I realize that it is the one that I play everytime I am alone. Here goes nothing.
"We've been here too long,
Tryin' to get along.
Pretending that you're oh so shy.
I'm a natural ma'am
Doin' all I can
My temperature is runnin' high.

Cry at night
No one in sight
And we got so much to share
Talking's fine
If you got the time
But I ain't got the time to spare
Yeah

Do you wanna touch (Yeah)
Do you wanna touch (Yeah)
Do you wanna touch me there, where
Do you wanna touch (Yeah)
Do you wanna touch(Yeah)
Do you wanna touch me there, where
There, where
(Yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah)
(Yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah)"

I run off the stage and sit between two guys who lift me onto the bar and the whole club starts to join in the song.

"Every girl and boy
Need a little joy
All you do is sit and stare
Beggin' on my knees
Baby, won't you please
Run your fingers through my hair

My, my, my
Whiskey and rye
Don't it make you feel so fine
Right or wrong
Don't it turn you on
Can't you see we're wasting time, yeah"

As I finsh the song, everyone is singing and dancing. They all cheer as the song ends, and as I jump down from the bar I hand the mic to the DJ.
I look around and see Max smiling, but it's Eric that catches my attention. If looks could kill, most of the people in this bar would probably be dead.
