**Hannah POV**
Mark turns around and looks at me."Hannah, do you still love me?" Mark is still looking at me. I sigh.
"Kinda..." I look at the ground.
"Don't you think it's kinda ironic how we end up in the same town again? Like, I know this sounds cheesy but... do you think it's meant to be?"
"Like... fate?" I whisper.
"Like fate..." He runs his fingers through his hair.
"Hannah, for the past few days, I can't stop thinking about you, about us, about everything we had." I see tears rim his eyes. "And I'm tired of seeing you get hurt over and over. The last place you moved to before this, you had a boyfriend. He broke your heart. It's killing me everyday to watch you be like this.... so Hannah, I'm sorry but-"
Mark's door swings open. In comes blotchy-faced Jacob. I back away into Mark's arms. When I'm in his arms, I feel protected.
Jacob stares at what he's seeing. He shakes his head and pulls something out of his pocket. It's a ring case.
I swallow hard. "Jacob? Is that-"
"A ring. A f*cking promise ring. So when I'm gone, you know you're not alone, but now, you're obviously not alone. You have Mark!" Jacob chucks the case at Mark's chest and grabs it.
"Jacob..." Mark and I say in unison.
"When were you gonna tell me? When were you gonna tell me you dated my best friend?!" His face is flooded with guilt.
"How the hell am I supposed to tell you that?! HOW?!" I scream. I start to walk forward and Mark grabs my shoulder. I ease out of his grip and walk towards Jacob.
"Was I supposed to just say 'oh yeah by the way, I dated your best friend?"
Jacob nods. "Would've been better than keeping it from me." He shrugs.
"Oh yeah and let's not forget how you kissed Daniel in the freaking janitors' closet at my meet in greet in Seattle!!" He walks closer to me. I can predict Mark's fists clenching tighter and tighter.
"I didn't know who I liked anymore... I loved you and that's all that matters... I made a stupid mistake... I should've kissed you first but I didn't... I was afraid, Jacob."
"Of what?"
"Getting to close... I could move any time this year! And it would leave BOTH of us heartbroken. Do you really want that?" I'm now a foot from Jacob. "Do you want that?"
"I would take WHATEVER I could to be with you... even if you moved to freaking California! I would do whatever I could to still call you mine...." Jacob whispers.
Mark walks up behind me and grabs my shoulder. "Can we talk?" He whispers. I nod.
"Jacob, can I talk with Mark for a sec?" Jacob rolls his eyes and leaves the room.
~
"Hannah, I still love you but I don't think this can work. You belong with Jacob. It's meant to be..." He pauses between sentences, clearly showing that he's not telling the truth.
"Mark, that's a lie. I know you still love me and want to see me. Please don't be serious. I need someone here for me."
"You have Jacob!"
"What if this happens again? Who am I gonna go to? No one..."
"Hannah, listen to me. I love you a lot and I need to move on from the past and live in the present. Now, please exit my room..." he looks at the ground and points at the door.
"Mar-"
"N-Now, Hannah..." he stutters. I turn around and hug him. I hug him for the last time. I take in his cologne and his shampoo scent... He hugs back and kisses me on the head.
"Stay strong, babygirl..." He pulls away.
"You'll always be the first... the first one who made me feel happy... and loved...." his voice is shaky and so is my body.
I grab the door handle and leave the room. I just left my first love...
