Chapter 16

After the accident things took a turn for the worst.

Greg was immediately rushed into a twenty four hour surgery as there was severe damage to his kidneys, lungs and spinal cord.

Both females were rushed into surgery as well, however one pregnant mother she her unborn baby succumbed to their injuries would undergoing treatment.

Unable to identify the identity of either of the women the deceased was sent to the hospital morgue for observation and a full autopsy.

The remaining female made it through surgery but went into coma immediately after. Her face was completely damaged and her arms fractured.

News about the untimely accident spread like wildfire throughout the state it was a story that kept the local tv news at the head of the viewers list.

Night after night the report remained the same one unidentified female and her unborn child dead, one unidentified female in a coma and Greg still under going treatment.

GREG'S P. O. V
************************************A week and a half in intensive care could do nothing to shatter the broken feeling I had inside.

*knock *
I was pulled back to the current room u was in.
Two Police men, one whom I recognised from the station was at my door.

"Come in "
I mumbled in an attempt to calm my raging imagination.

"Mr. The police man I didn't recognise began saying as if searching for the right words.

"Just say it " I said not daring to look in their direction for fare of the worst about Alissa.

He did a sigh and my chest tightned as I waited with baited breath.

"There's no easy way to say this so I'll just say it, Alissa was a passenger in the car you ran into. There were two persons in the car and one has succumbed to her injuries. The other female has been in a coma and the doctors are not sure whether she will make it.

The worst part is we aren't sure who died she who's alive because of the facial injuries both Alissa and the other passenger suffered from.

Furthermore Alissa's parents have magically surfaced and have filed a lawsuit against you the full details are in this envelope" he paused to hand me a thick white envelope I hadn't realised he was holding.

Can I see her? Was all I was able to say I didn't care for a lawsuit I could hire the best lawyers and pay off any charges without batting an eye. The thought of loosing someone whom I haven't gone a day without thinking about was more scary than anything I could imagine.

I'm sure that if I just saw her once I'll know if it's her I pleaded look from one officer to the other.

"Actually" a man dressed in white uniform and blue gloves said causing us to turn our attention to him as he entered my room clutching a clump of papers.

That's why I'm here he said staring straight at me above the crooked lens of his glasses. My name is doctor Tyrone James and I've been overseeing you and our female patient since your accident.

Since you're one of the last persons who spoke to both females before the accident we figured she might respond to the sound of your voice so yes as soon as you think you're ready to face her we would like to have you talk to her for a week or so.

Unfortunately she's on life support and we may be forced to pull the plug if there are no positive changes to her health. We are short on equipment and the hospital im afraid isn't able to foot the treatment bills for much longer.

Right then and there I told them to stop talking I couldn't listen any longer. On my way to visit her room I called the bank and had them pay from my account the dumb lawsuit Alissa's parents had set up against me as well as all the medical bills for Alissa's treatment because I knew it was her. She was too strong a woman to not come out of this alive.

As soon as I saw the body wrapped in bandages and all sorts of equipment attached to her I couldn't help but break down into tears. My mouth became dry and sweat dripped down my neck and palms. Her face was hidden away from sight and I could no longer see her gorgeous face.

I sat in the chair next to her and told her all that was going on. I told her how much I've missed her and if she would give me the chance I'd love her the way I was scared to when we fuse met. Tests streamed down my face as I told her how we all ended up here and how I wasn't able to get her kidnapper behind bars. Tub next thing was the lawsuit which was so bizarre because those same parents hadn't even came to see if it was their daughter or not. After a few hours I decided she'd heard enough for today and kissed her goodnight.

I continued visiting her and even had her removed to a room where the sunlight could enter her room and I could read her stories. In those few weeks I became more and more attached to her and I became more certain that this was indeed Alissa.

This morning the doctors had told me that the bandages were to be removed today so I'm sitting here taking too her one last time before I saw her face again. I was happy but I little scared what if it wasn't Alissa? Would I ever recover?

So today, for the last time like this I was telling her how much I had improved and how I would be able to walk down the isle with her as soon as she was ready to when her eyes blinked open.
