"Nadia are you sure you're okay that we can't come down to visit until Christmas?" My mother, legendary Rose Hathaway asked again. She tried to come down to St. Vladimir's whenever she had a free moment, but her charge was the queen and she believed no one could protect Queen Vasilisa better than her. Well she was legendary, just like my grandma too, so was my dad, Dimitri Belikov, he always came with her when she visited since he guarded Christian Ozera, the Queen's husband.
"Yeah you and dad go save the world, I'll be fine as long as my teacher, Stan Alto, dosen't embarass me again. I think he enjoys it!" I tossed my long dark brown hair over my shoulder, my hair was so dark that at times it looked black. Just like my mom's.
Mom laughed through the phone, "I used to think that too, trust me, be great and he'll love you!" No pressure. I thought sarcastically, " I know what it's like having a famous mom, you'll be fine! Honey I'm sorry I gotta go, tell Sofia I said hi , I love you!" Sofia was my best friend and Queen Lissa's daughter. My mom said when they were our age they were best friends too. I put my phone on my bed when I heard a knock at the door.
"Coming!" I yell. I thought for sure it was Sofia or maybe (hopefully) Alex, Sofia's big brother, I had a crush on him since freshman year even though he was two years older than me. Hell my dad was seven years older than my mom.Two years was nothin'. I opened the door, shocked to see who it was, "Dad?"
"I thought you would have been happy to see me Nadia!" My dad pulled me into a huge hug.
"Uh dad? Why are you here?" I asked confused.
"Lord Ozera wanted to see his children," Dad said it as if it were obvious. "And Stan asked me to tell a few stories in his class since I was going to be around," I must have looked as confused as I felt cause he added, "Lord Ozera is teaching the fire users defensive magic. Mia Castle, Isabella's mother,is teaching water, and Lord Ivashkov, John's father, is trying to help those that might have spirit. You don't know any others."
"So you're staying here?! The whole year?!" I panicked my dad could be so over-protective! Like last year I was kissing Logan Zeklos and my dad almost punched him! What was that about? Logan is hot, I hear he looks just like his dad, Jesse Zeklos, mom went to school with him they probably were friends or something. What was the big deal?
My dad chuckled, "I am but I won't be around all the time you have nothing to worry about. And as long as Zeklos keeps his hands to himself no one'll get hurt," When he talked about Logan his tone darkened making him kinda scary.
"I gotta go meet Sofia, I'll see you later dad. Bye!" I said wanting to go before Logan walked by and did something stupid.
"Okay I'll see you in Stan's class. I love you Nadia," He bent down and kissed the top of my head. He turned and left in the direction of the guest housing.
I sighed this was going to be a long year.
"Nadi! Hang on!" I turned my head in the direction of the voice, I considered going inside and changing, 'cause I was in a black spaghetti strap shirt and jean short shorts, but then decided not to I looked hot. "Whoa! Nadia you look..."
My heart skipped a beat Alex, was the guy that had called me. I should have known, he's the only one that calls me Nadi. "Hey Alex, what's up?" I tried to sound casual and a little bored. He was amazing, dark hair, jade eyes, pale skin, and when he had his shirt off...
"I-um I- I wanted to know if you were free tonight? A double date? You, me, Sofia, and Johnny, what do you say?" Alex stumbled on the first words, was he nervous about asking me out? Awesome!
"Yeah I think I'm free, but I'm two years younger than you. Why me?" I was totally glad her chose me but I was also confused.
"You're the hottest girl at St. Vlad's, plus I always kinda thought you were cute, but now! Oh my God..." the way he looked at me made me blush. Oh my God he was so hot!
"Oh I better warn you, my uh dad is here so be....careful," I warned. When Alex heard that he looked around maybe thinking my dad was hiding in the shadows just waiting to jump out. I laughed he was so scared of my dad! "Hey, look at me, don't worry, he can't hurt you, you'r mom would have him killed."
He finally looked back at me and grined. "See you later?" He asked.
"Tonight? Double date? You, me? Remember? I have no choice but to see you later," I teased him, finally he noticed me!
"Yeah, I guess so. Bye Nadi!" He waved as he walked away. He had a cute butt, really it's adorable, "Bye hotness," I say when I think he's out of hearing range. He wasn't, as soon as the words left my lips Alex laughed, I forgot Mori had such good hearing.
I blushed then walked back in my room to change. I threw on a red v-neck and black skinny jeans cute but not so cute my dad would make me change, a very fine line.
I texted Sofia, hey ur bro jst askd me out! i hope thts ok. U noe ive likd him since 4eva!!! cyl i gotta meet Bella in Stan's class my dad is tellin a story!
I put my phone in my back pocket and stepped out of my door running right into someone. "Sorry! I-" I looked up and saw a Mori man(he looked like Turkish or something) with a golden hoop earring and wild fancy clothes. "Grampa?" My mom had told me about him before, I thought she was kidding.
"Nadia! You look so much like your parents! Your mother's hair and face, your father's skin and eyes! Say, you don't have a boyfriend do you?" My grandfather gave me a sly smile, reminding me of a snake. I hardly knew him and he was already asking about my personal life? Talk about pushy! I see where mom got that gene.
"Um no not really. I have to go to class though, to meet my friend," Being around him made me nervous, I needed to get away from him!
"Who? Sofia? Or Isabella?" He knew who my friends were and we hadn't even met, was he stalking me? Creepy!
"Uh... Isabella, Sofia is a Mori. I'm goin' to theory, guardian Alto's class," I tried not to frown when I said his name. Ugh.
"Yes,yes of course... Your mother asked me to give this to you Nadia. She said it was important," My grandfather's curiosity was almost tangible. He handed me a small box.
"What is this?" I asked puzzled, why would mom give me a piece of jewelry?
"I don't know she said only you could open it," he replied. I only hesitated a moment before opening it. Inside was a necklace with a silver chain with a scarlet ruby hanging on it. It was the most amazing stone I had ever seen! It was like a magnet pulling me towards it making me want to touch it so bad.
"Amazing," My grandfather breathed as if he too were hypnotized by it. I noticed a note that said, Power comes with responsibility, Nadia, use yours wisely.
"I-I have to go, bye grandpa! Love you!" I said confused, not needing an audience for whatever was happening. What powers?
