Cal ascended from his sleep droopily. A smile crept up on his face as he rubbed his eyes. It was the day before moving day. Goodbye California sunshine and Bay Area pride. Hello many days of snow in Idaho. The members of the Thompson family had few things in common, but being protective family members was one of them. This made moving so much easier for them because they would still be together. This is something that Alyssa kept telling herself whether she believed it or not.
Silently tip-toeing out of his bedroom, Cal made his way over to his sister's bedroom. Although, the room was completely empty not including the air mattress that she was sleeping in, the room had an essence of light that clearly showed her personality.
He walked through the doorway and lay his head on the mattress adjacent to her kneeling on the ground. He whispered in her ear,"Good Morning Lissie." Alyssa fluttered her eyes open."Morning Cal," she whispered back softly, her morning voice making her voice barely distinct.
Cal, not realizing Alyssa had responded shouted loudly in her ear,"Buppie, wake up!" Not remotely surprised by the way he reacted she sat up on the mattress and sighed slightly exhausted.
"I'm awake Cal," she said giving him a warm smile and wrapping her arms around him. "Are you ready to get on that plane?"
"Yeah, I think so, I can't wait to make new friends and go to that water park!"
She immediately looked up as she saw her mom in her peripheral."Oh, Alyssa. Cal. You're awake I was just about to go out and get some breakfast. Come on Cal you can sit in the front." Cal jump up on the floor and took off toward his bedroom to change clothes. "As for you," she continued as she stared at her, " I would ask you to get some more sleep, but since you're up you should probably start making some calls, so you can stay in touch with your friends over break."
"What friends? This entire year I've only been studying at home and drilling myself with math questions. I guess I'm too busy for friends."
"WHAT?!," my mom scoffed loudly. "No one is too busy for friends! And you won't make any with that attitude."
Geez most parents would be proud that their children's schoolwork takes priority over their friends.
"Don't worry. Idaho is my opportunity for a new start. Columbus academy has so much to offer."
She smiled proudly, "That's what I like to hear. Crystal is still sleeping and Ernie is playing downs stairs with Violet and your Dad."
"Okay I guess I'll see what they're up to later."
