I woke up to the sound of the annoying beeping coming from my alarm clock. I sit up sleepily and click around on my alarm clock until it shuts up. I look around at the half unpacked boxes, barely visible in the dim light that sneaks through the curtains I hung just last night. What a mess...
I get up and head over to my closet and remember Kaleb. Crap. What on earth am I gonna wear now that someone might be looking at me? I decide on a pair of black skinny jeans and a flow-y pink shirt. This whole dressing nice thing is gonna kill me.
I do my hair and makeup nice and grab my keys and some toast.
"Bye mom, see you after school." I shout to my mom as I head out the door.
I get to school and as I turn the corner after the front entrance I run straight into someone. When I look up my heart stops. Kaleb.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" I bend down and pick up some of the things I dropped.
"No! It's fine. It is all okay." He chuckles and his smile just melts my insides. "Well, see you in Art." He smiles and nods and I shoot him a grin back.
I immediately feel like an idiot. "I'm so smooth just ran into the freakin' guy," I whisper to myself, "He probably thinks I'm a total loser."
The next few periods zoom by. I start heading to lunch and find a seat. I start eating when all of a sudden, this gorgeous girl who looks straight out of a movie comes and sits down next me. Gosh, she made me notice every flaw of mine. I looked down at my child-like boobs and could suddenly feel every zit on my face. She had womanly curves and gorgeous blonde hair and a tan that I could never compete with. How could a guy like Kaleb ever look at me when girls like this are walking around? She looks straight out of a Hollister commercial and I look like the 8 year old in a Chuck E. Cheese flyer.
"Hi, I'm Elaine, I noticed you by yourself so I figured I'd come say hey." Damn, she even had that nice pretty girl name.
"Oh hey, I'm Madelyn. Nice to meet you." I grin and I can feel myself looking so dull in comparison.
"So how do you like Gatewood? It's pretty sucky if you ask me but it what I'm stuck with. Actually I also meant to ask would you wanna sit with me and a few other girls over there. We are all really chill so don't worry."
"Uh sure, thanks." I smile again and start to get up and follow her when I see him. Him! Looking at us. Dammit he is probably all over what Elaine has. God why the hell am I so ugly. I can just feel him looking at us. I had to restrain myself from asking Elaine where the nearest bridge was and what are my odds of never waking up again if I jump off of it.
I tried hard to get past the annoying feeling of his gaze over at this table. I freaking hate myself. Ugh. But I kept on like a champ. I was mostly listening to the girls gossip about some guy named Zach (who we are supposed to not talk to right now cause he cheated on Taylor) when a girl leaned over and said, " It's okay, I'm not following either. I've known them since kindergarten and still, in one out the other." I giggle and she smiles.
"So you're Madelyn?" she says.
"Yep, I didn't quite catch your name?"
"Oh I'm Lauren. Lauren Weekly if you want the full deal. Haha, so you notice any guys here yet?"
I didn't know whether trusting Lauren was good or bad but if figured what the hell. It's not like I'll ever get Kaleb anyway.
"Yeah actually, Kaleb F-" she cut me off before I could finish.
"Oh my god hell yeah. You've got a shot. Just don't tell Elaine. She's been trying for a few months now and he doesn't seem interested."
Wait, what? Kaleb isn't interested in Elaine, sure seemed like it a few minutes ago. The rest of the conversation was a blur. I just couldn't focus.
The rest of the day went by slowly. And then sixth period came around...
