Hellooo, this is my first Sherlock fanfiction, and yes there will be Johnlock. Just gotta be patient. This is just an idea i had pop into my head and decided to take a shot in the dark at it.

Oh yeah sorry if the format is a little weird looking or something. Im using an ipad. iPads don't have tab buttons on them which really annoys me. Anyways, here is the introduction. Tell me what you think!

A young curly haired boy stood looking out the window, watching two people passing. They looked as if normal citizens that had no idea what was coming.

What was going to happen you ask?

A connection. It happens when you come into close proximity of your true soulmate. It sounds beautiful, right?

Wrong.

Even as a child Sherlock wondered why people needed to have soulmates. Why would you want to have to depend on anyone? It seemed ridiculous. You don't even get to choose who is your soulmate, it just happens. He pondered this as he watched the two strangers suddenly stop walking.

Then you see an almost ghostly red cord shoot from their chests, meeting eachother. Their lines were both red, meaning they had similar personalities. There were many colors that meant different things.

Blue, meant cold, clam and collected.

Red, meant Fiery, passionate and fierce.

Yellow meant happy, kind, and empathy.

Sometimes people had two colors, and since they meld together it creates an array of many different qualities. You never see it until you meet your soulmate, but it wasn't all that hard to guess either.

Sherlock himself for example, may possibly be Blue.

Back to our story.

As this played out Sherlock watched in boredom. He sighed thinking on day he's going to have to do something as stupid as that and he won't be able to free himself. You see, this system may be convenient to find someone to love but it had its major draw backs. Once you are connected to someone, you cannot leave their side without getting caused psychical pain or maybe even death. The string that connects the two people turns invisible immediately afterwards, but its like how gravity forces you to stay on the ground. No matter how high you jump, you going to come back down, just except when you try to walk away from your soulmate it brings you back with burning psychical pain. The more you try to walk away from your soulmate, the more pain you feel. Of course the cord stretches as your love grows but usually that takes trust and love. Two things, young Sherlock still does not have.

Sherlocks parents never connected, they married for money.(As much as I love love lovvvvee Sherlocks parents in the actual show, I need Sherlock to have good reasons for not being able to love and his disgust of it. So I'm making them totally different.) Always he had been told, "love is not an advantage, avoid it." By both parents and his brother, Mycroft.

Sherlock wasn't even sure why he was conceived at all if his parents had married for money. Maybe it was for more money, his young mind thought. Probably, and most likely plausible. Sherlock was sure his parents didn't know what love was. Until a dreaded day that will haunt Sherlock forever.

"Ive connected with someone." Said Sherlocks mother quietly at the dinner table. They all looked up at her. Mr. Holmes looked shocked.

"You did?" He said disbelievingly, she nodded, "I want a divorce. You keep the children. They are not a product of him and I," Mr. Holmes looked angrily at her, "you can't just leave me AND your children!"

"I can and I will." With that she got up, not even looking at Sherlock and Mycroft. Without turning around her voice echoed in the large dining room, "they are not my children." And with that, she was gone.

They never saw anything of her other then the divorce papers after that. After that, the years seemed to flash by and their father was always bitter and remorseful. He always wished revenge upon her, but had never set out for it. Instead, he took it out on Sherlock. Since Mycroft, of course, was the perfect child he never got the short end of the stick with his father. Mr. Holmes was strict, and unforgiving towards Sherlock all the way into adolescence.

By the time Sherlock left the house, his father had left the country in search of his "wretched mother" no, he may not of loved her but he feels as if this was a personal blow to his pride. She had to pay. After that Sherlock hadn't seen his dad. Not that he wanted to see his father, the man was terrible.

And finally Sherlock started making a life for himself, everything was running smoothly, he was always very cautious around other people without soulmates because he didn't want that.

But boy, did the universe have plans for him.
