"What the hell?" I say, staring at the old man quickly putting an envelope in my mailbox.

"Shhh!" Lisa whispers, as she lowers herself in the seat.

"It's not like he can hear us, L, and look, he's gone."

As fast as he came, Mr.Eber was nowhere in sight.

"How the hell did he get here so fast? I saw him at the school just 5 minutes ago." I ask.

"I don't know Ash, I told you something's up with that guy." Lisa responds as she opens her door and jumps out.

I do the same, and follow her to the mailbox.

She opens the little door and pulls the small, white envelope out. She rips it open and pulls a folded paper out from it.

She stares at it, and it feels like hours have gone by.

"Well?"

"I don't understand. It's completely blank." She says.

"Seriously?" I take the paper to have a look for myself.

"L, this paper isn't blank"

Dear Ashton,
This may seem very strange and confusing to you. Only you can read this letter, but I did such intently. I was supposed to wait to contact you, but we are running out of time. You're turning 18 in a few months, and soon they will be able to get you. All I can say now is that there are very bad people looking for you, and it's my job to make sure that doesn't happen. I'll explain things soon. Stay safe.

I finish reading the letter to Lisa, several thoughts swirling around my mind.

"I knew it. I knew he was up to something, this definitely proves it. I believe what Mr. Eber is saying, wether or not we can trust him, that's to be decided later. We have to look into this, we can't just wait for something bad to happen."

"I agree, this isn't good. I'm just not sure what to think yet. Let's go inside and see what we can find."

"Why would anyone want something to do with me?" I ask Lisa, sitting in the stuffed chair next to the computer desk in my father's office.

"I'm not completely sure, but I bet it has to do with you being relating to your grandfather."

"My dad always said he had bad mental problems, that he was crazy. I'm not too certain if we can trust his journal."

"Ash, look at what happened today. Mr.Eber sent you a letter that only you could read saying that bad people are looking for and it's his job to protect you. Your grandfather mentioned the name Eber repeatedly in his writings, how can we not trust it? Our town is small, the same families have been here for awhile. My guess is that your dad might be hiding things from you."

I don't want to believe that my dad would do something like that, even though we're not the closest. I don't want to believe that my grandfather's writings and what Mr. Eber said are true.

"I know you're right, L, it just doesn't seem real."

"I get that this sucks, Ash, I do. But we can't just sit back and pretend this isn't happening."

"Alright." I say to her a bit reluctant.

"I'm thinking we can start by finding out more about your grandfather. The only thing we do know is that he was captured in Dimension X when he was young, and that a man named Thomas Eber was with him. "

Dimension X was first discovered 400 years ago. In that time, people began to develop technology, video games, that would allow the every day citizen access into the dimension. It quickly became corrupt and overrun with power hungry lunatics. The government shut down access to this dimension 25 years ago, and all public information has been completely erased from the Earth.

"L, the dimension has been shut down for decades, do you honestly think the people who are supposedly after me are connected with it?"

"I really don't know. It's always a possibility, though. Your grandfather definitely is a reason these people, whoever they are, are interested in you, I can tell you that much."

"I have this feeling that maybe getting into this isn't such a good idea." As soon as I say this, I hear rocks crunching and car doors slamming outside the window.

"Shit, my dad's home, you better get going." I tell Lisa, hurriedly trying to get up.

"Alright, talk to you tomorrow."

She springs out from the chair at the computer desk and reaches for the door.

"Wait! At school, right?"

A large grin is all I get in response as she hurries out the room, and out into the night.
