Dinner With Families
"Hey," Josh greeted. His ardent tone faded when he saw my face. "What hap--"
"Don't ask." I flashed my hand in front of his face as I strode in.
I got into my room and slammed the door shut behind me. My phone buzzed by the bedside table. My anger subsided when I saw Nathan's name appear on the screen.
Hey, baby :) Lets have dinner 2nyt w/ our families. Mom wants 2 discuss about the wedding. -Nate <3
That made me smile. I immediately sent my response.
Sure :> When and where? -Carey
I've booked a table @ that new Italian resto two streets past urs. C u @ 7 -Nate
I got out of my room and knocked my parents next door.
"Mom?"
There was no response. Then, I heard thudding inside the room.
"Dad?"
I heard another thump.
"Mom, what's going on?" I tried to open the door but it was locked and I have no clue where the keys are.
A moment later, Dad opened the door.
"Oh." I said, seeing him perfectly fine and covered in sheets.
"Yes, dear?" he said in a "trying to convince you that there's no secret here tone with a matching "really, everything's fine" smile that was not very convincing at all.
I tried to peek inside but he blocks my view everytime I tried to see past through him.
"What is it, dear?" he asked in the same "I'm really hiding a secret from you but I'm trying my best to look like I don't" tones.
"What are you doing?" I felt weird. "And where's mom?"
"Oh," he said, his fake smile unwavering. "Nothing. I'm not doing anything. Why don't you just tell me and I'll just tell you mother?"
I raised a quizzical brow. "So, you mean she's in there."
His smile freezes like he just got caught but still won't budge. "Yes."
I scrutinized him. "Really, dad," I said. "What are you doing?"
His smile drops and he wore a guilty look. "You know..." he hesitated.
"What?" I said, pushing through his words.
Dad lingered on saying, "You know..."
"What is it?"
"It."
"It?" I said uncertainly.
