06 | Brandy

The fire flickers momentarily, exposing the confused look that flits across Brandy's face.

"I don't have your parents."

"No, you don't." The villain agrees, treading lightly. Her eyes shift around the room, fists tightening. "But you do have access to a database of information."

"How does that help you?" His hooded eyes narrow, trying to find the catch.

"I want to find out what happened to my parents." She says simply. With a twitch of her eyebrows, she notes the space between Brandy's outstretched arm and the corner of his nightstand.

"They're probably dead."

The girl squeezes her eyes shut, letting a small puff of air out.

And then she dives.

Her sleek black figure is already by the window by the time Brandy has blinked, leg dangling out of the square darkness.

"It's always worth a try."

A small slip of paper flutters out of the darkness, aimed straight at Brandy.

He catches it with one hand, involuntarily crumpling it between his thick fingers.

"Give me a call." A half-hearted smile tugs at her lips before she vanishes into the night.

The aroma of grease and oil assaults Brandy's nose, and he gulps at the bacon greedily.

Seo looks on with a faint smile, twisting a napkin between her slim fingers.

"Why so hungry?" She says, referring to his cavernous appetite.

"Extra calories." He mutters between sips of orange juice.

An unbelieving expression permeates her face before she dismisses it, pulling a chair across from Brandy.

"We have lost track of the criminal." She says. Her eyes track Brandy's shoulders as they stiffen, and a concerned expression creases her smooth complexion.

"There are no traces of her to be found as usual." Seo continues. "But with more details from you, we might be able to pull together an idea of her whereabouts."

The villain's business card burns a hole in his pocket, and Brandy's hand itches towards the slip of paper.

Initially, he had been skeptical of the girl running in a professional field, much less producing her own business card.

However, while running his hands over the neat, square script, it seemed apparent that she did, indeed, distribute evil business cards.

It made him question his own level of professionalism, and why he had never thought to make some of his own.

"I have decided," He announces around a mouthful of hashbrown, "that we should drop it."

Seo's face quickly morphs into one of shock, eyes painted two shades darker.

"But sir, you have been researching her for months." Brandy catches a concealed note of relief in her tone. "Are you sure you want to give up now?"

"I've thought about it, and there are more important things then some self-employed villain." He swipes a napkin over his mouth before standing. "It's a waste of time and resources."

"Well, if you believe so." Seo stammers, rushing to collect his dishes. "I will have the labs cease testing immediately."

"Good." Brandy grabs an apple from the fruit basket, biting into the juicy flesh.

"By the way," he leans forward. "What do you think about business cards?"

Brandy has gone through the pros and cons and ins and outs of the girl's offer, so much so that his eyes start to burn and his head feels faint.

He rubs his fingers along the already wrinkled cream cardstock, sending furtive glances at the glass phone perched on the table.

It's glaring screen is unassumingly black, reflecting his tousled hair and disheveled appearance. A heavy weight suddenly settles itself on his lap, and Brandy startles, only to find Tubbs curled in the crook of his legs.

His white tipped ears flick condescendingly at the man, a low hum working its way through its throat.

"What do you think I should do, Tubbs?" Brandy asks, petting the feline's soft fur.

A pair of luminescent eyes peer up at the man through a coat of thick fur, and Tubbs meows inconspicuously.

A faint smile spreads across his lips, and he glances back at the device.

"I think you're right."

Brandy grabs the phone.
