One of the best feelings in the world is waking up to a cold room, but you are still wrapped up in soft, warm blankets. What's even better, is for a second thinking you're still in school, and that you have to get up, but then you realize you're in your twenties, and you don't have any current responsibilities. What could be better than that? I'll tell you. Waking up to a cold room, being wrapped up in warm blankets, and feeling a hot body pressed lightly against your back, and soft fingers brushing through your hair. That is a beautiful feeling.
It took me a second to realize where I was, but soon all the memories of the day before were flooding back to me. The dress. The dinner. My hotel room. I remembered the cold air conditioning biting at my skin when he ripped the dress off of me, but he instantly soothed me when he pressed his warm body against mine, and I remembered the shiver that allowed a tremor to fly through my body. I remembered his deep sigh of relief once were finally falling asleep together.
We had finally taken that step we were always just teasing about back in high school. It felt amazing, and it felt like it took too damn long to make it happen.
I came back to the present moment, and felt my muscles were tight. My legs stretched first and then my arms. My back arched and popped a few times as I yawned.
"Damn," Brendon commented softy.
"I know." I laughed, feeling much better. "Spending majority of my time sitting in my truck has done a number on my body."
"No doubt," he agreed. "This wasn't how I expected to wake up this morning." He hugged me tight against him. "Not to complain, of course. This surely is a sight for sore eyes." He took the time to scan my body before looking right at my face. "It just...seemed like it would never be more than dreams again."
I kissed his bare chest, and he responded with a relieved sigh as if my lips removed a great blockage within his lungs. We stayed silent for a few minutes, just lying there together, his hand relaxed on my thigh, soaking that moment in. I felt his fingers softly trace the scars on my thigh. I had never shown him those ones, but it seemed to not phase him. I could tell he was just reacting to what he felt, not making a big deal about it.
My heart raced as I allowed my question to slip, "Brendon, what now?" His thumb lightly began rubbing back and forth against my skin. "What does this mean? What does this make us?"
"I don't know, Lisa," his heart beat faster too. "This... I wasn't planning on this. Any sort of expectations I had of what it'd be like seeing you again are now shattered. I mean, at least you still know how to keep a guy guessing."
"Listen, you let me drink," I accused.
"You know, I expected you to put on your big girl panties and know your limits," he defended. I shot him a look only to find he was shooting one back at me. The corners of his lips curled up, and I felt mine do the same. "Still so stubborn," he commented with feign bitterness.
Three knocks on the door startled us. Brendon gently rolled me off of him and sifted through the scraps of clothes on the floor to find his boxers. Three more knocks.
"Just a sec!" he called out, pulling on his underwear. I wrapped myself up in the blankets, remembering I was naked too. He checked back at me, making sure I was covered, before opening the door. "Oh, morning, Zack," Brendon greeted.
I heard Zack stifle a laugh before he responded. "Yeah, good morning, from the looks of it." I embarrassedly covered my head under the sheets even though the door was blocking me completely. "Anyways, you three should probably start getting ready if you want to make those breakfast reservations."
"Oh," Brendon exclaimed. I peeked out to see him run his hand through his hair, "I totally forgot about it." He cleared his throat, glancing at me. "Well, go tell Spencer, and the two of us will get up."
