Heroes are Made, Not Born, Except For Me, I Was Born

I opened my eyes, white hospital walls greeting me. They were soon accompanied by the hushed voices of my dads, Isaac, and...... a girl?

"Cody!" Came Issac's call.

"Cody!" My dads said in unison.

"Cody Mitchell-Matthews," the girl said snarkily.

I turned, pulling my rose colored sleeves higher up on my wrists, jumping aback in my skin to see none other than Rachel McKenna Hall.

"Um.....?"

She laughed, and moved a strand of hair out of her eyes.

"I, as the student council president, was sent to represent the junior class, and to wish you a pleasant recovery."

Oh, yeah. She loved me.

"Well, thank you," I said, trying to sit up, but feeling a pain in my stomach.

"Lay down, Code," my dad Donnelly said. "We've got a lot to tell you."

My other dad, Steve, nodded. "Rachel, would you mind-?"

"Nonsense. I'm sure whatever it is you can say in front of me."

Steve nodded, then turned back to me.

"You're adopted," Donnelly said.

"No!" I replied sarcastically.

"But we've never told you about who we adopted you from," Steve elaborated.

"I'm listening."

"You were born to a couple of mutants," Donnelly said.

"Like, X-Men, Charles Xavier-type mutants?"

"Yeah, pretty much," Steve said.

"Hold on, am I hearing that right?" Isaac exclaimed, pulling the reed from his mouth.

"Yes," Donnelly assured.

"That's.... that's pretty flippin' awesome, man!" Isaac told me.

"I must concur with Isaac, this new development is rather astonishing."

"Anyway," Steve interrupted. "We knew you'd end up with powers, but we didn't know which they would be."

"Oh my god."

"They did absolutely nothing to you after you were shot," Donnelly stated.

"You're healing on your own," Steve added.

"Is that-?"

"Maybe," Donnelly said.

"Just think, Cody. You could be a superhero!" Isaac pointed out.

"Isaac is right. With powers, you could be something out of a comic book."

"Just maybe..... I could be more."
