I woke to something cold poking my stomach. I opened my eyes and saw a small silver colored dragon. Then I realized that this was my little sister.( you see we dragons can tell other dragon's sex by using only our sense of smell.) "Hi." "Hi." I looked around and saw that Mother and Father weren't in the cave. Now that there were no distractions, I could explore our home properly. So I set of with my sister in tow but she had a hard time following me. I was busy climbing rocks when there came a voice saying "How....come...... You.......can ....go ....faster.. then me." (I found it was my sister who spoke when I turned around.) She had asked between grunts. I made my way down to her from the pile if rocks that led all the way up to the cave ceiling. "Even though I am 4 days older than you I am so big already because we dragons have to grow large fast. We are only vulnerable when we are at our youngest." She looed at me with dazzlingly bright blue eyes. "How do you know so much?" "Because Mother and Father told me about the world out side." "When can we go outside?" "We must learn to fly first. Then we must learn to breath fire. Then learn magic. Then me must learn how to camouflage, disappear, hunt, learn who we let alone and who we kill, and who we let see us." "Who are 'the who we let see us'?" "Humans. Never be friends with humans. They kill anything they please. Have you ever wondered where Mum and Da's scars came from. And ask yourself why is Da's eye missing. Or why part of Mum's wing is cut jagged. Humans. Mum and Da don't like to talk about it they will tell you when you are older they already told me. But after this NEVER talk to them without them about this without them bringing it up.I remember a little after you hatched Da came in bloody with his eye missing." Why?" Because, they kill us for sport. All for a dragons skin. Little sister, ask yourself is that a creature you would want to be friends with." She shivered her scales quivering clattering against each other (dragons do this when we are very frightened.) "Never." "Good. Quiet here come Mum and Da. Hallo!" "Yes hello girls." Mum said as Da dropped the carcass of a huge buffalo on the cave floor. But they other than that they didn't speak to us it seemed that they had something on their minds. I left my sister gorging down twice her bodyweight. "Mum Da what's wrong? What happened?" They had their backs to me so they had to turn to face me." We were hunting and we went to see your Aunt White Flame when we arrived at her cave it was abandoned......" Mum stopped she couldn't go on and cried dragon tears.(You see my Mum is close to her only sister who is also my only aunt. My Father had no sisters.) Da continued for her." We found dragon blood, fire marks and dead men with their weapons." Horror swept over me like a tidal wave. I understood. "Y............you mean." I couldn't finish. It was to horrible to say. All my parents did was nod. "Go eat. Don't tell your sister. She's not old enough yet. Rest for tomorrow we shall teach you how to be a dragon." (You are probably asking how we get over death so easily. Most of our first memories as dragons on are of death. Like that lullaby my Mum used to sing to me 'death is life, war is peace.' We don't have time for grieving. When your a dragon and you drop your guaard for a second and your done. We have to move on fast or get swept away by the the tide of change. So we move on with life. The easiest way for us to do that is to bring happiness to others so that their happiness makes us happy.)

As terrible as it sounds I forgot about my aunt. I had only one thought in my dragonish mind.
Tomorrow I become a dragon!
