I glanced over at him. How could he be mine? Why did he choose me? Smiling, he looked at me and whispered, "Choose any word you can think of." He said it like it was nothing.
I asked him "Any word?"
"Any word. Just one." How do I choose? There are so many. The ones labeled as bad and the ones we love to hear. There are random ones and well thought out ones.
"Ummm... I don't know. Potato." We had promised to never keep secrets from each other but I do not think this is one I could tell anyone. Let alone him.
"Potato? Seriously? Out of all the words it the world you chose potato." He said it as if it was unbelievable. If only he knew.
"Yah. What's wrong with potato?" I did not know what to do. He would never believe me if I told him.
"It's just that... I need to tell you something." He stuttered, "You know that I was adopted but you don't know much else about it right."
He'd told me this before but I never truly questioned it. "Well yah."
"Good. Alysia. I need you to promise that no matter what I say next you won't tell anyone." I nodded, "Ok then... I was born Jeffrey Potato Williams not Alan Brushoff."
"Ok... Why did you change your name? I see why your middle name but why the rest?"
"I didn't change it by choice. You see I'm... I'm a prince. Some angry people wanted to kill my twin sister and me. So I was put up for adoption."
