Chapter 5

I walk into Calloway’s Bar and Grill and my stomach does a flip as I scan the restaurant trying to find Chase. After I got off, Kara insisted that she came over to help me get ready. So here I am all dolled up for a guy I don’t really know.

The clothes that Kara picked are so my style and makes me feel comfortable. I’m wearing dark blue jeans topped with a loose black V-neck sweater with studded details on the shoulder. Black suede pumps and a long dream catcher necklace pendant finish off the outfit. For my makeup, Kara did a cool cat eye with black liner and then a bold red lip. My hair cascades down my back and shoulders in waves that were curled by Kara. Overall I look hot and I feel sexy in a simple way.

After a few seconds of looking, I see Chase sitting at a booth near the back of the restaurant. I begin making my way to him and when he spots me, he gets up to greet me.

“Wow Kara said you were pretty, but you are beautiful Jolene.” He says as he hugs me.

I bite back a sarcastic reply so I say, “It’s nice to meet you Chase and I’m hoping you’re finding Savannah pleasant.”

“It’s also nice to meet you and its very nice here. The people here are very friendly and homes here are amazing.” He replies before our waitress comes up and asks us what we want to drink.

Chase orders draft beer for both of us and I let it slide since that was what I was going to order. I mean if you go to a Bar and Grill for dinner, you have to get a beer; it’s a common law, unless you’re an alcoholic. Then I would suggest not ordering any type of alcoholic beverage.

I pick up the menu and the Louisiana Fried Shrimp looks pretty tasty and I know that is what I want.

“So how long have you been in town?” I ask after he puts his menu down.

“For a few weeks now; it’s nice to get away from work. What about you?” He answers and so far I like how he asks questions and I’m not the only trying to conversant.

Before I can reply, our waitress comes with our beers and then asks if we are ready. Chase tells her yes and states his order of a well done steak with a baked potato and a salad.

I go to tell her what I want, but Chase cuts me off and says, “She’ll the Grilled Chicken Salad.”

The waitress looks me stun and I look at Chase, but he just sits there like he didn’t do anything wrong. Oh hell no; no guy orders food for me without asking me permission.

“On second thought, I’m hungrier than I thought. I’ll have the medium-rare New York Strip with the lobster tail on the side and a salad.” I tell the waitress and she gives me a wink before hurrying off to the kitchen.

Looking at Chase, his cheeks are slightly red and I give myself a pat on the back. At first it’s awkward silence, but then we talk about basic things and I begin wishing the night was over. From talking to him for twenty minutes, I learn how self-centered he was and thought too highly of himself. Every time I asked why he moved here, he avoided answering and that let’s off a warning bell in my head.

Soon enough I get a pretty good idea why he left when a young woman walks over to our table with a toddler in her arms and a swell belly.

“Chase, it looks like you’re having a lovely time when I’m in Tennessee taking care of your kids!” She yells out.

His face goes white and I just sitting like really; he has a kid and one on the way; just my luck. Right then our waitress comes to check on us and I tell her to wrap my food and I’ll get it before I leave. Luckily Chase doesn’t notice and I watch him try to get himself out of this.
