Chapter One
---
Elaina shivered. It was cold, too cold for her, she was the type of girl who enjoyed the snow, but shared a hatred for the cold. She pulled the blankets up to her neck and laid there staring up at the ceiling. Thoughts were pouring through her head, one by one and she just couldn't handle it.
All at once, she began to quickly fall apart. She would scream, and started hating herself, she couldn't control herself. So much was happening, she really needed a job, but with no car, how can you have a job? She really wanted to go to college, but without money, how can you go to college? She knew she was alone. Alone and afraid like a snowflake on a cold winter night right before it drops down and melts upon the concrete.
Elaina felt like melting, melting away and never coming back but she knew that was entirely the wrong choice. She needed to find her place in life whether it's being a trash woman, or a famous celebrity. So one day, she found her place and everything finally started to go well.
"Yes, yes, yes!" Elaina shouted into the phone. "I would love to come and try out for the part!" The part being an understudy in a small, simple play, but it was her moment. She hung up the phone and cheered with excitement. "I'm gonna be famous!" She exaggerated. She clearly knew she wasn't going to be, "famous" but that wasn't stopping her.
Minutes later, She got dressed in a flaming red dress with lace around the bottom and a black belt wrapped around her waist. To match, she slipped on some black heels and grabbed her old brown purse, or as she calls it, "vintage brown purse." She left and arrived at the small theatre that was only minutes away. She was full of excitement, yet she felt butterflies in the pit of her stomach, "Just smile and do good." She whispered to herself as an encouragement.
When she was in the theatre, she met up with the director of the play, "Code Cordin," weird name, right? She shook his hand and introduced herself, "I'm Elaina Jewels." Code nodded his head, "I know, I know. So you're new in acting, hmm?" Elaina sighed, "Yes, but I'm sure if anyone happens to the girl I'm an understudy for, I will be good!" Code furrowed his eyebrows, "How can you be so sure?" Elaina paused, "I'm not." Then, she sat down in a close chair and began memorizing her lines.
"So, you're the new understudy?" Asked a girl. "Yes, I'm Elaina Jewels, and you?" Elaina smiled. "I'm Evany Ayala." Evany shook Elaina's hand and sat down next to her, "Looks like if I get hurt, you'll be the one playing my part." Elaina nodded her head and continued to memorize her lines. "Well I'm not very good at acting anyways." Evany continued.
"Who's that?" Elaina asked as she pointed towards a tall girl in a white gown. "That's Marina Waters, I think. She has the lead role as 'Rylee Mckmin.' I haven't seen her act, but I guess she's good since she got lead role." Elaina gulped, "I'm kind of nervous." Evany laughed, "Why? I don't think I'll die on stage, hopefully not. You don't need to be worried."
Suddenly, Marina walked up and sat next to Evany, "Hey." She whispered. Evany didn't notice her because her voice was too soft. "Hey, are you alive?" Marina asked sarcastically. "Oh yeah, sorry, didn't hear you." Evany replied. "I'm so nervous." Marina admitted. "Me too." said Evany, "I like your dress." Marina glanced down at the silver white gown she was wearing, "Thanks, but it's not mine. It's for the play, haha."
Evany turned to look at Elaina. "The play starts soon, I guess I'd better get going." Evany stood up and walked away. While she walked, she noticed something shiny on the floor. She bent over to pick it up and tripped over someone's shoe. "Ouch." She said as she slowly lifted herself up. She glared at the stranger only to notice it was a tall, handsome man. She and him locked eyes and she stared into his deep blue eyes. Finally, he lifted the rest of her body up and apologized, "Sorry about that, I really didn't mean to-" He paused and smiled. Evany felt her cheeks turn red and she tried to cover it up, "I got to go." She said. "Wait, your name?" He asked. "Uhm, Evany..." She smiled and ran off.
Marina glanced over at Elaina, "Sup'?" She asked. Elaina looked up and waved her hand, "Nothing much. Just tired of being unemployed." Marina laughed, "So, which part do you play?" She asked. "I'm an understudy. It's really not that special." Elaina replied, "But I see you have the lead role.." Marina nodded her head, "Yeah, but my parents force me to act, I don't want to be an actor I want to be-" She paused and stared over at a boy who was talking to Code Cordin. "Is he your boyfriend?" Elaina asked.
Marina shook her head, "No, but I wish he was." Elaina laughed, "What's his name?" Marina smirked, "Jake. Do you have a boyfriend?" Elaina giggled, "Did you really just ask me that? Of course I don't. Loner for life, yay!" She clapped her hands playfully and continued to talk with Marina.
Elaina eyed this boy who had shaggy brown hair and blue eyes. He was walking towards her, and she became stiff as a rock. "Welcome to the acting world." He said. Elaina couldn'y believe he was actually talking to her. "I'm Alex Fesson, Code wanted me to act out some part with you, ya know, for practice." Elaina stood up, "Okay, sounds good with me." They walked away leaving Marina behind.
'I should go talk to him.' Marina told herself. 'The worst he could say is no.' She stood up and walked over to Jake. "Uhm, hi." She said. Jake turned and stared Marina in the eyes, "Hey." There was a moment of akward silence, "I'm Marina." Jake smiled, "Yeah, I know, I've seen you around, you seem pretty and cool." Marina blinked in shock, "Did you mean pretty cool?" Jake shook his head, "We should hang out some time." Marina nodded, "Yeah."
