Poem 03 | My Knight Has Fallen.
You always thought you were my
Knight in shining armor.
And for a while I thought you were too.
Oh, boy. You were everything.
I remember that frigid September night
Overseen by the golden-speckled
Obsidian sky.
You plucked the cigarette out my mouth,
Took a drag and told me,
"I'll smoke up every cigarette you've got
if it means saving you."
You flung it into the sea of Fall leaves.
I looked up at you,
Your eyes lit up, dazzling
like the stars above our heads
And I thought you were my everything.
Thought you'd do anything to save me.
You thought so too, Mr. Knight,
Until it became too much
and you suffocated.
And now I must save myself
From this unruly sadness.
