Olivia Lane
Chapter Four
The light was squirming in through the blinds and demanding its presence be acknowledged as it assaulted my eyes. I scrunched my face up in attempts to clear my vision, but the light was blinding. I groaned as my body slowly slid out of my bed. I snatched up a pair of running shorts and a cut off tank top, slipping into them and I rubbed my eyes. Grabbing my phone, I began to groggily walk downstairs into the desolate kitchen. I was actually thoroughly peaceful silence as I grabbed a Greek yogurt from the fridge. I ran my fingers through my hair, tangled from sleep, and I unlocked my phone only to be greeted with no new messages or notifications. My eyes found the message from Cameron last night and the corners of my mouth tugged up.
‘Good morning’ I quickly typed him the text and threw my yogurt container in the trash and sprinted back upstairs. On my way into my room my phone vibrated, indicating a new text had come in. ‘Good morning sleeping beauty’ a giggle escaped as I fell back onto my bed and curled my legs up so I was sitting cross-legged. ‘What’s up?’ I asked, biting my lip as I awaited his answer. ‘Nothing, actually. Want to go to the beach with me?’ My smile grew as I hopped out of my bed excitedly. I sent him and excited ‘YES PLEASE’ along with my address and he agreed to come get me within the next half an hour.
My feet danced around my room as I flew from my closet to the bathroom and back again. I tried to figure out what to wear while yanking a comb through my hair at the same time. I squirmed into my high-waisted lightwash jean shorts and tucked in a loose fitting mint green cutoff tank top before I rushed into the bathroom, smearing a BB cream across my skin to protect it from the sun and bring some coverage to facial imperfections. I hastily squirted toothpaste onto the brush and swiped it across my teeth. I grabbed a pack of gum and my phone, slipping both into the pockets on my jeans before beginning my search for my gray converse.
They ended up being right in next to the front door and as soon as I found them, I spotted a figure approaching though the skinny window adjacent to the door. I peeked out the window to confirm the figure was Cameron before I pulled the door open.
“Were you waiting for me?” He ran his fingers through his flawlessly spiked hair as a smirk tugged at his lips.
“Yes. You kept me waiting for quite some time.” I joked sassily and he held his hands up in surrender.
“My dearest apologies. You ready to go?”
“Of course!” I yelled as I shut the door behind me and he grabbed my hand, leading me to his car.
Our hands remained intertwined as he walked and as we reached the passenger door, he insisted on opening the door for me. This of course caused me to roll my eyes, but smile nonetheless. I slid into the car and fastened my seatbelt as he bolted around to his side and hopped in.
As the car pulled out of my driveway, Cameron rolled the windows down and the breeze slithered in the window, caressing his face as it ruffled his hair around naturally. I couldn’t pull my eyes from his face. With his aviators resting on his nose and his brilliant smile he looked like something out of a magazine. His eyes were locked on the road, giving me the perfect view of his defined jawline. I felt an overwhelming urge to kiss him right then and there, but for the sake of not getting in a car accident, I restrained myself.
As soon as the tires screeched to a stop Cameron was out and running, determined to open my car door before I could. I let my head fall back as laughter bubbled from my throat. I took his hand and stepped out of the car as if I were a princess. The smile on my face grew as his fingers laced with mine and we made our way to the beach together. As we drew nearer to the sand I slipped my converse off, dangling them on my fingertips. I stepped onto the beach, letting my toes sink into the soft ground. I trudged forward, burying my feet into the sand while Cameron laughed at my childishness. We continued to walk until we hit the sand that was nearly sparkling from the sunlight. As soon as I set foot onto the luminescent groud, I recoiled and a small shriek escaped my lips along with the word “HOT.”
